overspeed training club

what do you guys use?
guys i am looking at building one of these. what do you use for a clubhead, or do you use a clubhead? i have seen 2 driver heads that are around 170 gms, but do i put a 60 gm shaft and a regular grip on these? i know the whole point of OS training is getting your body to swing at a faster speed with a lighter club. then when you swing your normal club, you are forced to swing at the new "speed" just looking for some help. thanks in advance.

I just bought "The Overspeed Club" which is a complete product ready to go out of the box. It's much lighter than a standard driver+shaft which is what you are trying to achieve and the best thing about it is its an actual golf club with head and all so you get the full visualization when you train. It's $79.00 Shipped so it won't break the bank. I've seen many different home made overspeed training devices. Some had no driver head and just shaft. Some had two golf balls with drilled holes slid onto the end of a driver shaft etc. etc. but I didn't have the tools to build something like that and I wanted to keep it as close to an actual driver as possible. They will build it to whatever length you need so you can get it as close to your actual driver as possible. It's a great product and I highly recommend it. You have to be careful building or using any heavier or lighter golf clubs as research has shown that anything more than 12-20% difference in weight compared to a normal golf club will likely change the way you swing which would be a bad thing.

I agree that the "real" overspeed club or NOS device as they call it at Z2 Golf is better than the homemade version. Although some may not want to spend the necessary 79.00 bucks to get it. I've added a little lead tape to get the feel exactly where I want it. It will simply have to have SOME weight to get the training effect(thanks Grapehunter). You may also consider the XLR8R from Tour Tempo. Works somewhat like an overspeed device but with the added effect of impact.

You guys should really set some big strength goals in the gym before investing in these "speed" gadgets.

Squats , Deadlifts , Barbell Rows, Some Bench press or Dumbell press for (people with shoulder issues)

combine this with routine flexibility and stretching training>
And waaaalla !! you got a 120mph+ swing.

Seriously though, think about it.
If you increase your max deadlift from 185lbs to 405 lbs.....wtf do you think would happen to your swing speed??
probally increase it from 100mph to 130+mph.

Jamie Sadlowski, Dominic Mazza, Kevin Na, Bubba Watson all of whom hit the ball a country mile. jamie is likely the heaviest of all those listed at 165lbs. It's not about big muscles.

lol Kevin Na doesn't count man. He averages 274* yards with his driver. Half this long drive forum can average that distance.

Jamie Sadlowski built his foundation from Hockey and Weight Lifting. You cant be a Hockey player and not have mandatory gym routines.
Dominic Mazza also has mandatory gym routines because he is on a highschool baseball team.

That leaves Bubba Watson , Bubba Watson is 6'3" , the guy has a huge swing arc which is where gets his speed from. He is the only freak on that list of 3 who doesnt have weight lifting routines which revolved around plyometrics and compound movements.

And yes I did say "STRENGTH" , never once did I mention big muscles.
Strength training combined with flexibility and plyometrics.

If we are only talking about strength training and not bulking up then yes I agree but to say that one should build strength before working on a good speed training regimen is pointless. There is no reason why you can't do both at the same time. I guess my main point is that you can workout all you want even if it is strength training while maintaining flexibility and you won't necessarily gain any clubhead speed because you aren't training your stronger muscles to move any faster but if you couple that with speed training, or just speed training alone you will gain clubhead speed.

You are training your muscles to move faster when you do strength training... Der der der....
When you stimulate your nervous system and overload it , the club will feel lighter and your body will want to move it faster then before.

For god sakes.....Joe Miller is a personal trainer and the guy lives in the gym.
Half the guys on the long drive circuit swear by the gym.... Yes even Jaime Sadlowski....Used to live in the gym to bulk up for Hockey and help his quads and hamstrings propel him across the ice.

This was a tweet from BUBBA WATSON himself ,
"Off to the gym. Then going to play some golf with @LIVESTRONGCEO #urwelcome" *Bubba Watson

Yes even Bubba Watson is trying to further his swing power potential in the gym.

Once again, I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm not saying the gym won't help. Hell I hit the gym too but i read your original statement as screw using any other training methods or devices. All you need is the gym to increase your swing speed. Which is incorrect.

Oh well my bad for the being not being thorough.
Im saying the gym should be your foundation or your "house"
and your speed training should help facilitate your newly found strength.
