Got to 201 mph ballspeed last night

Pretty psyched about that! VIDEO ADDED 2/28/11
My previous max (while staying in moderately good positions) was 130mph for swingspeed. I took 2-3 all out swings with a lot more shoulder turn and hit 140 and 141 for swingspeed and 200 and 201 for ballspeed last night with a stock TM Superfast. I'd imagine this is about what I'd need to start being able to compete?

fyi launch was ~10*, spin was 3800rpm, carry was ~345, total was ~357... i think side spin was ~400-500rpm hook. the club was a stock 10.5* R-flex. my time wasn't absolutely perfect for those two swings so they weren't along the center line.
Holy crap, R-flex? How did you not snap that in half like a twig? Did if feel like swinging a Superfast with a hose for a shaft or what? My driver ball speed is like 160 and I use a S-flex.

ive cracked 2 clubheads before but never snapped a shaft. what sort of setup do you guys think would be decent for a beginner to LD? how do I even get into this? also, I'm lefty...might make it a bit trickier to find heads.
You can't even think about beginning LD until you can put it 350 dead center.

That 350 with a huge hook is about 300 scored.

I mean try an X or (if you can get your hands on one) X+ shaft and see how you swing that. Swing speeds for LD comps are about 140-150 so you aren't too off actually. Get yourself a Krank 7* driver, an X+ and learn to swing out of your shoes.

Register there and who knows. That would be pretty sweet to get paid to swing a club way too fast.

If your ballspeed is 201 on that thing and you're only getting it to about 360 you have a ways to go as far as competing in the Remax. I have watched(in person) and competed against a lot of long drive pros in Remax qualifiers. Those dudes are long. I got knocked out of 2 qualifiers after hitting it 384 and 396.

That being said, I understand that you were using an R flex and hitting on a worthless launch monitor, so you may get a lot longer when you have a properly fit and built club. Good luck man.

SMT Golf makes a boat load of low lofted heads. Check out the 455 Deep Bore or Encore in like a 6*. You'd be dropping serious bombs.

 • 2 weeks later...

What up guys new to the sight and kinda new with long drive but the vector pro when setup right is pretty accurate, what I heard is the spin rate may be off a bit but when it comes to swing speed and ball speed it is pretty close..There is a well known long driver in my area who has been in the game for years and always said I should do it so last two years I farted around won both reg and in the sec I just was not prepared and did not have the right eqipment which from what I know now is so important when swinging at those speeds....I used a 47 in hof xx 7.5 adams saldowski head and was avg 145 147 and got one up to 151 on the vector which was set to record fast swing speeds they had to adjust it 2 or 3 times cause camera couldnt get the two pics in.Long story short the ld guy who is very reliable came with me and hit too, and he said his numbers were almost the exact same on a trackman if anything his ss was a lil low on the vector....To the kid who started this thread 140 is very good with a stock club with a long driver your probably 144 145 so i would get a couple hof xx shafts 7.5 or 6.5 heads. to the people on here sayin remax guys swing 145to150 they are out of there mind google trackman remax saldowski hit 150 once and the people that cashed checks were around 144avg but avg for the tournament was like 135 so yes top ten in world swing 145 and up thats it...Another thing my friend dont get caught up in swing speed its all about launch angle and spin shoot for 14 launch 1800 spin..I included some pics before people thought I was lying, but for you 140 is a great start very very good dominic the 16 yr old kid hit it 405 swinging upper 30s to low 140s so your right there pm if you want some help since I am now under the wing of a guru....thanks

Got any vids of your LD swing? Not calling you out, just doesn't look like those swings would generate that much ball speed. I'm always looking for more ball speed, just doing some research on swings that generate that much power.

I may have some have to find my video camera though,Saldowski is around 145-150 and is around 215tolow220s in ball speed. But what im starting to understand now is speed in not everything, the swing of me at 151 the total was 398 I think but launch 10 and spin i think 2300 when I hit a ball at 139 15launch and 1850 spin it was only ten yards less...So try to get that 14 15 launch and 1800 spin it will fly these are good ld stats when pga is around 2500rpms..

I think you make a good point. As important as speed is, optimization of launch, spin, etc relative to speed is important as well. Thanks, that was definitely a good reminder for me.

Yeah no problem I think there was a sr at worlds who swung 133 and hit it over 400..That was my whole problem way to caught up in speed just like 99 percent of people are..Way I look at it is only advantage swininging 150 is I dont have to kill myself to swing 143,and my numbers will be alot better in low mid 140s..So now I really just look at ball speed launch and spin and my attack angle,so your looking for high ball speed just find a swing where you make best contact and try to match the spin and launch and you will be killin it..rule of thumb at 120mph optimum driveing distance according to trackman +5upward attack 180 ball speed 11.2 launch and 1660 spin should carry 325 and then get max roll,.thats what they say
