Going to Destin first week of May

Trying to figure out where to play

Like the title says I'll be in Destin the first week of May, on my honeymoon, relatives have a condo that they're giving us for the week. I've been trying to figure out where to play but there's so many courses and I've never been there so I'm having a hard time figuring it out.

Going to play 3-4 rounds. Not too worried about price but don't want to overpay either. Courses at resorts that have a spa (for the future wife) are a BIG plus as that frees me up for guilt free golf. I'll have a car but would prefer to keep the drive under an hour.

Any help would be great.

Good Morning! You should try Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort! They have a great spa and lots of different activities while you play golf. Sandestin has four championship courses total though designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, Rees Jones and two by Tom Jackson. They are all award winning and were voted places to play by Golfweek the last few years and I think the prices are very reasonable. The Village is a lot of fun afterward...it's a pedestrian village on the property that has lots of shops, places to eat, places to get a drink on the water, a marina..etc...Hope this helps!

Regatta Bay in Destin
Kelly Plantation in Destin

Sandestin has the spa for your wife, but Regatta and Kelly are also excellent choices. Enjoy the time, and congrats!

I'm extremely jealous. I lived in Destin two years ago and definitely miss the golf and beaches. Have a great time!

Just played at the Sandestin Resort - conditions will of course be different in May, but here goes:

Baytowne: Bermuda, not overseeded, so a little crispy right now, but playable. This is flat, open and short (6,125 yards from the blue tees). Mounding and/or plenty of water, but it's always along the sides of the fairways and so there's not a lot of carry to deal with. The par 3s are all very short. The par 5s, including #9 and #`12, are very solid holes. This is a warm up track...

Raven: Overseeded and green now, should be lush in May. Lots of angles off the tee, lots of water in play. Greens have some undulation too. They played a senior PGA tourney here once. A very solid track.

Burnt Pine: basically private, but there are a few 'public' tee times available each day - call ahead. This is a legit track, with length, doglegs and very penal, steep bunkering. There is also ample water in play and a stretch of closing holes starting on #14 that play along the bay with a 2+ club wind to deal with at all times. Greens have tiers and undulation. You will earn it here.
