36 in Phoenix

A little help from the Residents/Regulars

I'm 2 days out from my trip, and I'm giddy to say the least. I do have a question though. Can I get a good recommendation on 2 tracks near each other that 36 in one day would be possible? I'm staying in Tempe, but distance doesn't really matter to me. I'm already booked Sunday at Dove Mountain. I think Monday I'm going to try either Estrella or Vista Verde. Estrella has a deal on GolfNow on Monday of $99 with/a Dozen ProVs and a replay and I think I'm going to go with that. So, I'm looking to fill in Tuesday. I'd like to keep each round under $100, and plan on using online services to book it. Talking Stick has a package deal of $199 to play both the North and the South course, I think that's a pretty good offer. Any other good recommendations? Thanks much.

I'm going to see my sister in Phoenix in July and was going through the many course options. I only have time to play one 18 hole round...so I'm a bit envious of you.Another one to consider with two 18's is We-Ko-Pa which is just east of Phoenix. From what I've read, many people really appreciate both courses and the pricing is "reasonable". It's the course I'm planning to play during my visit.Just something to consider. I had an ASU grad (also a golf enthusiast) who mentioned that the Karsten Golf Course might be destroyed in the near future to allow for further ASU expansion. Not sure if it's true, but it might give more incentive to play the course before it's gone. Can someone confirm??? I would love to hear that this is NOT true.

We-ko-pa Saguaro is my favorite course in the valley, however, not in the "reasonably" priced category this time of year and they do not participate with the discounters.

Have heard the rumor about Karsten. Nothing more.

If the Estrella deal includes unlimited golf, I would go for that. If not, close by is the Raven at Verrado - great course and should be <$100

Another top course in AZ is Southern Dunes in Maricopa (30 min South of Tempe). Nearby is the Duke, while maybe not the most recognized course, it is a great fun-to-play layout in good condition and reasonably priced. good 36 hole day.

If you are out at Estrella...then I recommend playing Raven at Verrado just down the way instead of the replay.

 

 

While this is pushing it, it is a great choice if you can do it. But I would consider the Dinosaur Mountain as the afternoon choice. You could pair it with an early round at Las Sendas, Superstition Springs or Poston Butte. Or the Devils Claw one below...you will have plenty of time.

For your Tuesday Rounds I would recommend Whirlwind: You will enjoy it much more than Talking Stick.

Whirlwind would be a nice 36.. with a chance to eat at the turn.. Drinks and casino games after i checked today an dyou can get around for under 200 total..good deal

Thanks for the input all. I decided to follow TJY's advise.

My upcoming itinerary:

Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain-Sunday @ Noon for $109
Southern Dunes Monday @ 9:26 for $75
The Duke Monday @ 3:00 for $30
Took the package at Estrella on Tuesday for $99 @ 9:44. Free replay, a dozen Pro-Vs, and lunch for $99. I just couldn't beat it. If I'm just flat whooped, I can leave after 18, or maybe just play another 9.

I tried to keep the two round day on less expensive courses. I figured 4+ rounds of golf in Arizona for about $315 I did pretty good.

if you're looking at vista mind as well take a peak at tonto...just played 36 there the other day without a problem...all weather dependent of course...fun tracks too...as for prices i have no clue...i paid 10 bucks...haha
