Need some suggestions on where to play....

Going to be in Memphis, TN next weekend and need some suggestions on where to play. I am planning on playing Miramichi on that Saturday, so need some recommendations for a round Sunday morning. Would love some feedback on Miramichi as well as far as condition and just how good the course is in general. Thanks

Havent been there in about 10 years, but in HS I worked at Cherokee Valley and Plantation Golf Course in Olive Branch. Just a short drive outside Memphis. Not sure how these courses are now days though. Good luck.

I played Cherokee Valley last year. A pretty fun course and it was in great shape! And you can go to John Daly's bar for a drink afterwards!

I would play Mirimichi both days if possible. The course will be in better shape than any other public course and you'll probably want a rematch anyways.

If private courses are an option then take your pick, all are good options IMO.

Johy Daly has a bar there now? Is it in the pro shop or just in the area near the course?

i'll second Mirimichi and Cherokee if you cannot get onto any of the private courses...with more weight going to Mirimichi.

I realize this is a little past the drop dead time, but for others who may come to Memphis, I'll give my 2 cents. My first recommendation for anyone coming to Memphis is to look for courses with Champion Bermuda greens. The large majority have changed over from bent to Champion Bermuda, but there are a few holdouts left. Champion Bermuda is a GREAT putting surface any time of the year and only gets better the hotter it gets. The four courses I'm recommending all have Champion Bermuda greens.

First must play is Mirimichi. GREAT layout & greens, superb condition, plenty of length (7400 YDS), undulating fairways, numerous well placed bunkers filled with sugar, and water comes into play on the majority of the holes. It has very good practice facilities and also has a stunning 9 hole executive course. After that, you can head 5 miles North and play Glen Eagle in Millington. The layout is OK, but the greens are perfect and VERY difficult (i.e. speed and undulating). 20 miles South of Memphis, you can play Tunica National and Cottonwoods in Robinson, MS. Tunica National is a McCumber layout with very nice greens, bunkering, and plenty of length. It's a pretty flat course and the wind blows 90% of the time. Cottonwoods is a very nice course all around. It also is superbly maintained, long from the tips, and well bunkered. If I had to rank the above courses, I'd say 1) Mirimichi 2) Cottonwoods 3) Tunica National and 4) Glen Eagle. I can almost guarantee anyone would enjoy all four. Cherokee isn't a bad course, although the greens (bent) struggle when it's hot. Plantation changed their greens to Champion Bermuda last year. It's OK in terms of layout, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who's coming from out of town.

As for Quail Ridge...really? IMO, it's not even close to the four I recommended, nor Cherokee, but may be on par with Plantation.
