Free Iphone GPS apps

Recommended Posts

too good to be true?
Has anyone tried any of the free GPS apps for the Iphone 4?

The 2 that I looked at were the ViewTI app, and the Executive Caddie app.

Just wondering if anyone uses any of the free GPS apps, and which ones do you like/dislike.

Yeah, I know I can download it and delete if I don't like it, but I'd like to know if something is alright before I show up to the first tee.

Does the free version give you distances to bunkers, water, to the dog leg, etc? That's the kind of info that's really important to me. I've not used Golf Logix but from what I understand, you have to pay to get the full functionality that GolfShot GPS has (which of course costs $30). To me, even $30 is still a bargain compared to true golf GPS units which cost hundreds plus most having annual fees.

Yeah youd have to pay the $20 to upgrade so youd get the full function of the app. If I was to pay id just go with the GolfShot app. but for free golflogix is great.

I downloaded nRange free GPS on my BlackBerry, it gives you 3 free courses and the yardages seem pretty accurate. I was comparing it side by side to my Sky Caddie and the yardages were dead on or within 1 yard of each other.

I have about a dozen free GPS apps and my favorite is stll myCaddie Pro. No limits on free usage like some. Tap to any point on the google maps screen for distances. Holes are oriented with the tee at the bottom of the screen and green at the top. 3 zoom levels. Easy way to map new courses.

I bought Airvue and I still use myCaddie Pro more often.

Golfshot GPS actually has a free version out right now.....its pretty darn good for a free app.

Golf logix is a free app as long as you just use the basic mode......and it is also very good for free.

For those asking if it wears down the battery on phone...... yes, if you don't have a fairly new phone with a good battery, if you use a phone app that has any features, it will wear your battery down right at or near the end of most rounds.

Sorry, I posted Golfshot GPS..... but I meant that Golfcard GPS has a new free GPS app out now, and its really good. Not too mention the Golfcard scorecard is very nice.

I use the GolfShot app and love it. I paid for it though. The free one was good but I wanted GPS so that's why I bought it. Very accurate and worth every penny. I love the online stuff also on their website where you can view everything you need right there.

I also own GolfLogix but bought that earlier. Both are great but I like GolfShot more.

Check out Swing by Swing golf. I have used it for most of this year and it has been very accurate on almost every course I have played. I regularly play with 2 others who both have other paid for GPS (i think GolfBuddy and something else). The free version I have is almost always within a few yards of theirs. The GPS gives areal views where you click the screen to tell you the yardage to that spot and from that spot to the green as well as 5 different green locations (just off front, just on front, middle, just before back, just off back) with the option to click anywhere on the green to get that yardage.

I have compared it side by side on the same course with the free GolfLogix app and Swing by Swing was much closer to the actual yardage (plus the free version gave many more features).

I've used GreenFinder on the blackberry for a couple years.

It's $30 a year but I thought it was better than any of the free ones I looked at.

I had a buddy who had issues with it on his Android. I don't know anyone who used it on the iPhone. I found it's GPS to be very accurate. It has the ability to move crosshairs to anywhere on a hole (satellite image) and it shows distance to that point, and distance remaining from that point. I find that feature nice, particularly for odd shots where you're getting out of trouble at funny angles.
