callaway experts, is this a prototype?

i notice this sole is different on this supposed hawkeye pro series from the retail one and it has a tour id band on the shaft, is it a prototype?

i have put up a pic of the retail on the callaway preowned website and the prototype with the red loft designation

that looks like a knockoff from a few years back...i've seen a few of them from customers that got back from china at the time the vft was popular...check the callaway medallion though...if it has the hologram then that would be the prototype...if not its counterfeit...

Actually, try to stick a magnet to it, it probably isn't even all titanium

Callaway had a forged face prototype of this model. This looks like that head to me if I remember correctly.

There was a ERCII Pro that used the forged face of the ERCII but was confroming. The retail had ERCII markings on it though.

 

Tough to say on the shaft band. Redband is the correct "time frame" though for the VFTs. I guess it comes back to "know your seller". I hope though you didn't spend that much $$ on it because even if it is tour the size and tech in it is pretty old.

 

My Callaway Tour issue connection has tons of Tour issue GBBIIs really cheap but I figure no real value/interest in trying those.

if it says tour series on the sole, then yes it is a tour only proto, i cannot read the word above the loft, it should say tour. also these had the face like the erc, not the vft pro series retail club. ca you attach a pic of the face and a better one of the sole?

"Hawkeye" as it is located under "Big Bertha" is smaller on the last photo than that of the real Hawkeye. I'd say fake.

I saw one exactlly lik ethsi at the Golf Galaxy here a few weeks ago. I noticed it said "Tou Series" on it, and the tour ones I have seen that I know are tour issue still say "Pro Series". Everything about it to me said fake. Looked really cheap, and the paint was horrible. The shaft in this one was also a "Tour Series" and not the RCH Pro Series that some of the Callaway guys are still using. My vote would be fake.

That is indeed a Tour Issue club- From what I remember- This was the first club where Tour players were going to much higher lofts than the traditional 9* due to the extremely low center of gravity. It was never released retail but have seen some around.

 

Biggest identifier (other than Tour ID band) is "Tour Series" vs. "Pro Series" - they also had a few 9.5*, but mostly 10.5*

This is a tour prototype. I had one a few months ago that said Tour Series and was 8.5*. Came from PGA pro Clarence Rose out of Goldsboro, NC. Had a YS-8.1 X shaft installed.
