Diablo Octane Tour

my 2nd look....i owed it to Callaway...and got a great driver

So long story short.... I was one of the people that got to test the Diablo Octane Tour several weeks ago for Callaway. However i had received it with the stock shaft instead of the one i listed as my preferred choice. I was still appreciative of getting the opportunity but i couldn't give the club a real honest demo. As expected, hitting it with the stock shaft led to some dissapointing results.

but anyway, rather than let it eat up closet space, and because i felt like not giving this an honest demo would be doing a disservice to Callaway considering their generous offer to test it. I scoured ebay for a cheap , heavy , low launching beast that could turn this into a driver worth calling my own.

Anyway, I now own:
-Titleist 909D2 with Aldila Voodoo XPP8
-Ping G15 w/Aldila Voodoo XVS7
-Callaway DOT w/ Pershing 75X

brought these 3 babies to the LM near my place after finally getting my lead tape in the mail to swingweight the DOT properly.

Anyway, with about 10-12 well struck balls each. The DOT was the CLEAR winner in terms of pure numbers performance. This head is loooooowww spinning. It spun 300rpm less on average then my 909/XPP8 which i would have never thought possible, and 600rpm less than my G15. It provided similar launch and better ball speeds then both aswell, and seemed forgiving enough that it was pretty easy to put a good swing on the ball.

Add to that the head looks gorgeous at adress, this is going in the bag immediately. So there....i feel better about myself. Thanks for the demo opp, Callaway....And if anyone sees me on the course in montreal....i will be the guy with the DOT in my bag!

I realllly want to try this driver. I am a low ball hitter with a comfort level for 10.5* and above.
SS is low to mid 90's. pretty consistent ball striker.

How was the height of your shots? Sometimes a low spin head gives me trouble for height.

with the Pershing, which is supposed to be relatively low launch, i'd say i have a mid flight. Wouldn't say it's super low launching but i got low spin numbers

Thanks for the writeup. I seemed to basically dismiss the DOT once I saw the RHT. I don't see a lot of people playing this head.

Very interested the spin was so low.

I actually disagree with the spin numbers. I play the 10.5 stock tour head myself. This was higher spin than the razr hawk tour head which was low spin. I would call this low to mid spin. Its a great forgiving combo that I love.

Nice writeup. Way to go the extra mile to provide better feedback on the driver. Have you had the opportunity to hit the course with it yet? Any real world impressions? How's the feel/sound compared to the other two drivers? And most importantly...any pics?

i was very surprised at my results, if you had told me spin would have been less than my 909/XPP8 i would've taken that bet all day

not surprising the razor hawk is low though.

pics eh? Sure thing !

Yeah i played with it on sunday and had a great day driving the ball. The sound is pretty close to being mildly offensive but it's not too bad. On a scale of 1 to original Nike Sumo it's only about a 4. I got a mid flight and hit the ball well into the wind. I'd put the feel 3rd behind the other drivers but i'm a results guy

How do you disagree with spin numbers? It's not a matter of opinion

I just went through an outdoor fitting with a Trackman. My swing speed is 99-100, and attack angle of -3 degrees. Spin rate with the 9.5 degree Razr Hawk stiff stock shaft was about 2650. With the Diablo Octane Tour it was 300 to 400 higher. Even higher with the regular versions of the Razr Hawk and Diablo Octane. Ordered the Razr Hawk Tour.

it's tough for me to explain the spin comment. But i gave the 3 heads an honest test, and with the shaft that should spin the most of the 3 (Pershing compared to XPP8, XVS7), i got the least spin with the head attached to that shaft by a noticeable margin. It's not apples to apples but i concluded it must be a pretty low spin head.

i have never hit the razr hawk tour.
