Coming into town on business. Schedule is sketchy, but will have several days to play through that time. Definitely the 4th.

Any course recommendations? Playing partners?

Cheers...

Olivas Links in Ventura is pretty good. I got a good deal the time I went out there, $26 for a 12pm tee time. Book directly through their website. The course condition wasn't great when I played, but the layout is nice. Generally it is the main one that comes up.

If you want to venture further south Rustic Canyon in Moorpark is a must play.

I'm not sure how far you want to go but some choices are Soule Park, Robinson Ranch, Lost Canyons.

I'd skip lost canyons It has really gone down hill

black%20eye.gifTry Sandpiper in Santa

Barbara or Rancho San Marcos just up the hill

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't played there for a while but was planning to do so in the next couple weeks so now I'll avoid it. I will stick to the local Robinson Ranch.

Rancho San Marcos, Sand Piper, and Rustic Canyon are all worth the trip.

Thanks for all the replies, folks.

I'm coming in about the 25th of June and staying until about the 12th of July. Looks like the entire 4th weekend will be open to play. Driving an hour or so to play doesn't bother me much.

Hey Lefty Boomer! Still got that Diablo 3W for sale?

Care to meet up for a round and maybe work some business?

Anybody else in the area available to play.

DIsclaimer: I suck at golf. Best round ever was a 90. Typically will break 100, but still looking for that 80'somthing round...

Let me know I play out of Wood Ranch and maybe we can find a time to Play.

Forget Lost Canyons. Converting to one course and Upscale homes
Rustic Canyon is a hoot and well rated for public courses but not a typical US course so it will be different.
Tierra Rejeda is a well maintained target course
Robinson Ranch is always good

I'm headed to Rustic Canyon on Saturday (July 2). I intend to get there early (7am or so) and play 36 holes.

If anybody'd like to join, or has a discount option I can pursue, I'd be grateful.

I'm thinking of trying Tierra Rejeda on Sunday and somewhere else on the 4th.

Disclaimer for the scratch golfers: I suck. My enthusiasm for the game does not reflect in my skill. (Typical mid-90's shooter, might break 90, WON'T break 85...)

So, a report from Oxnard...

I've played these so far:

River Ridge - Both sides are in fantastic shape. They're getting ready for a City of Oxnard tourney and have poured money into the course. Best shape of the ones I've played so far, both sides. The greens and fairways are so pretty it makes you want to take your shoes off and play barefoot. Hummingbirds all over the place. Pretty windy.

Rustic Canyon - Very pretty and LONG. The fairways are a a mile wide, though, so there's not much fear in letting rip with lumber. Pretty good shape, but HOT after lunchtime. (100+ when I played) They're lacking in water cans on the course, too, so make sure you've got a water bottle for the in-betweens. The greens on this course are some of the hardest I've ever played. Three-jacks all over the place. Which adds insult to injury when you're hitting a mid-iron into the greens due to the course length. Saw about three score roadrunners from as close at 10 feet away. And at least one million rabbits.

SeeBee course at Port Hueneme - Typical base course, short (5800 yds), but cheap and easy to walk. Decent shape. After playing the above, I was ready WAY too much break into the putts. Nice breeze to keep you cool.

On the list:
Olivas - Probably on the 6th or 7th

Any last minute recommendations?

Last note: Scored a great travel bag off Craigslist while I'm here. I can take both back w/ me, but if anybody wants a slightly soiled Club Glove Burstproof in Oxnard/Ventura area, shoot me a PM.

live down in LA and only drive north to play.

sandpiper in santa barbara is worth the drive and cost, it is fantastic.

lakes at river ridge is very nice, nothing great though.

olivas links is a awesome layout but sometimes the rounds take too long.

i like rustic canyon but i dont find it all that interesting.

ive played all these courses from the tips and none play as long as the number, with maybe victoria lakes and river ridge playing the longest.

rustic canyon plays atleast 300 yards shorter than the card.
