Is it worth it?

Just looking for some feedback on Patriot Hills GC in Stony Point NY. The weekend fees are pretty high at $120 but the pictures look pretty nice despite it being pretty short. Has anyone played it? Is it worth the steep fees? Thanks in advance!

As a local we get to play it for less than $120. The course is a "love it or hate it" design. It has lots of very signiificant elevation changes. Several holes where you hit from elevated tees down to valleys below and a couple uphill too. The par 3's are not memorable, but the rest of the layout is interesting and scenic. I like the course and play it a couple of times each year. Whether it is worth $120 depneds on whether you like this style of course.

What he said. I really like the course too and play it a few times a year. Elevated tees is right...there are some holes where the drop-offs are over a 100 feet. I don't think the course allows walking, not that you'd want to anyway, with the distance between the holes, not to mention the huge elevation changes. Make sure it hasn't rained before you play when the course is cart path only, otherwise, you'll be doing a LOT of walking and carrying 3-4 clubs with you on pretty much every hole.

As a non-resident, it's definitely pricey, but if you can get out during the week, I believe it's $65 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and also $65 after 2pm on weekends.

I played it at twilight last week, and I wouldnt pay $120 for it, and it had nothing to do with the layout. True, the par 3's seemed like an afterthought (as is normal with a course that goes up and down a mountain, you generally get par 3's that seem forced, but they were fun).

Most of the holes have some strategy to them, def not a course to try to overpower the first time out. BUT, the greens were in TERRIBLE shape. Lots of short irons in, and NOBODY fixes ball marks. Worth it at maybe $60, but given the number of courses in the area, doesnt seem like a good play at $120, but thats just my opinion.

I was nearby visiting this summer and we decided to try Hudson Hills instead. HH was $80 for a non-resident, and was DECENT, not great IMO. In that part of the tri state area, most of the courses are private and the better publics can charge a bunch.

Maybe a little further, but Ballyowen in Sussex County is much nicer than Patriot Hills. It's about $125 on weekends (includes Fri), but a lot less during the week.

There's a nice county course called Berkeshire Valley in Morris County that's also very nice. They have some fairway issues this year, though, so you might want to wait. Great county course, but bring your A game - first 5 holes are along a mountain ridge with OB on both sides. Oh, and into the prevailing wind...

I recently played Patriot Hills and loved it. Plus, if you look around you can get deep discounts on green fees. We paid $30!

Pound Ridge is also a great track about an hour from the city

Nice photo album, looks like a fun and interesting course.

After seeing this photo album, it would be a course I'd play when/if in the area.
