I have some PowerBilt Levelume irons that are the same. I think back then, serial numbers were not used to track irons but used the same numbers to identify clubs with the same specs.

Cobra Fly-Z+ Aldila UST V2
Golfsmith Jetstream 3W UST V2
Titleist 915H 3 Diamana

Titleist 915H 4 Diamana
Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro UST Recoil Dart
Titleist SM6 50F/54S/58S Aerotech SteelFiber
Cleveland HB 11S

Agreed. MacGregor used to use hosel numbers to signify what shaft, flex, etc. the club was.

I'm pretty sure that there's a post on here somewhere (I didn't find it in a quick search) that explains the Hogan serial numbers. The only thing that I remember is that the flex is the second to last digit (that's the way I remember it anyway). So I'm guessing that your sets have Apex 4s? Other than that the numbers were like length, swingweight, etc., but I don't remember the code.

If anybody really wants to know, you could do a search here, but it was several years ago.

Yes, my irons have Apex 4 shafts. I think you're on to something.

I've got a Hogan driver with an Apex 4 and the second to last number is 4. Now we need to find somebody with Apex 3 or 5 to confirm. But I think it'll hold up. As for the other numbers....

  • 2 weeks later...

I just checked 2 sets of BH Grinds the one with steel apex 4 next to last number is a 3, and the graphites are 4 with next to last number a 6, '88 Redlines have Apex 4 shafts and the next to last number is a 9, '74 Directors have Apex 3 shafts and the next to last number is a 3, Medallions with Apex 4 with next to last number a 4...go figure. Appears that there is either a lack of consistency or the theory is not valid.

I just found this

http://www.ironfinder.com/Individual-Irons/hogan/producer-75.htm

This code doesn't work on the Speedslot driver I have lying around, but this is what I remember, more or less. So, the code may have changed somewhat over the years. Or, it might be bs. But, I think it only applies to 'older' sets. I'm not sure how old, but certainly before the company started changing hands all the time.
