Going to Hamptons (NY) for a week in Sept

I'm looking for suggestions for golf courses to play while in Long Island. I think Long Island Nat'l is on my list, but what others should I consider?

 

II'm essentially looking for must-play suggestions. What courses would you play if you had a week in the area?

Hi,
You have some great courses out East that I think you'll enjoy playing. You said a week. Do you plan to play every day? Do you have access to a car? Whatever! Let me throw a few names at you anyway.

I have a friend of mine who shoots in the low 80's most of the time. FYI, he says that he will never play LI National ever again. He hit what he thought were good shots only to find his ball in trouble. He doesn't think it's a fair place unless you know it by "local knowledge."

If you're a NY resident, there's always Montauk Downs [near you] or even Bethpage State Park [not that close though]. MD is highly recommended. Out of staters can play but the cost is higher. I recommend these - Great Rock and Rock Hill. But you'll have drive some though although both are on Eastern LI. Both should have online sites. Also, they won't kill your budget. There are others but these should give you a head start. There's also Pine Hills [they have a grass range] and Willow Creek.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I am coming with my wife (non-golfer) so I'll be playing solo. I am a bogey golfer - low 90's. Good powerful swing but still learning proper mechanics. But I got new Razr's so I'm simply waiting for my round of 68

Anyway...we will have a car. Staying in the hamptons (not sure which yet). I probably plan to play 3-4 times, early in mornings. I am not a resident of NY but everyone in this forum has suggested Montauk to other posters, so I will give that a try for sure. Thanks for your LI Nat'l comment. I may try a bethpage course but not the black - not ready for it yet. Perhaps red bethpage? Or should I try green? Really, if I did 2 Bethpage courses and Montauk, that may be good!

Any other thoughts?

The courses I gave you will definitely fit your bill. Bethpage is not that close to The Hamptons though so I really wouldn't recommend it. The Rock courses and Willow Creek are great and yes, they are online. Check them out.
