top 5 public courses in tennessee

River Islands is one of my favorites ever. I grew up in K-Town and have watched its evolution of the years. Its a hidden gem for sure. #4 has to be one of the toughest holes I have ever played on any course when played from the tips.

Graysberg hills was awesome, my brother used to live in Johnson city, loved visiting and playing there. I miss that area and hate desert golf lol

1. Eagles Landing (owned by Sevierville City) - they just added another 18 holes so they have a highlands and river course. Great condition and green are quick. - Sevierville, TN
2. Old Fort - Great city owned course in Murfreesboro, TN
3. Bear Trace @ Tims Ford - in the middle of nowhere but its a fun course.
4. Windtree GC ... in a janky spot but a fun course that reminds me of East Tenn.
5. Greystone is just nice but who wants to drive to Dickson?

how is Windtree even on this list - there are so many better courses in the state then wind tree. Also for someone who lives in downtown Nashville, I'd much rather drive to Greystone in Dickson then Mt. Juliet, both 30-35 min away and it's a much prettier drive especially if you take Highway 70 through the state park. Unless you find strip retail, industrial buildings and run down trailers nice scenery on your road into Windtree. Though the people that play Greystone know the layout, conditions are why you truely go out there, no better daily fee course in Middle Tn. (Old fort is right up there too)

old thread, but I've always enjoyed RedTail Mtn over Boone GC... a few screwy holes, but usually better condition and way less crowded

To quote a buddy of mine, "why would anyone name a course Windtree? If there are two things on a course I don't like, it is wind and trees. What's next, Rough Pond GC?"
