The Alotian

The Alotian is being hyped as the new age Augusta National. It has burst into the top 100 courses lists for all the major publications already! I'm just wondering who has played it or heard firsthand of how amazing this place really is..... thanks.

A good client of mine played there earlier this year and called it "the closest thing to Augusta I'll ever play". He said the gounds and course were simply outstanding. Given the connection of Augusta and the Stephens family to The Alotian, hearing such talk shouldn't surprise any of us.

You'll probably have to know someone to have even a remote chance of teeing it up there.

Reviving a bit of an old thread here, but the Western Amateur will play on the The Alotian Club in 2013 ([url="http://www.thewesternamateur.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=lnKNKOOsHqE&b=6132941&ct=11521533"]source[/url]). That'll be interesting considering the heat and humidity in early summer down near the river valley (they've already talked about modifying the "traditions" of the event and allowing the participants to wear shorts instead of requiring pants), but I'm more excited to finally be allowed to get out onto the facility and actually see the place.

I have never run across a member or anyone who has ever played The Alotian, and I know members from just about every "exclusive" club in the country - Pine Valley, Augusta, the National, Shinnecock, Seminole, Cypress, Fishers Island - I agree that it's almost like it doesn't exist. Aside from Warren Stephens, I don't even know anything about the membership. What is their profile? As in the National is mostly Wall Streeters, Augusta is mostly titans of industry, etc.

That's kept pretty hush-hush. I'm not sure anyone other than the top brass even know how many members there are.

From what I've heard is it is one of those places you get asked to join, not a place that you call them up and ask about membership.

I understand that it is kept hush hush, but my point is, I think all exclusive clubs have some sort of niche. Like I said, the National is for financiers, Augusta is for titans of industry, Merion is for the WASPy Philly crowd, Seminole is for the highest of high society (JFK, Duke of Windsor, etc)... do they have a "niche"?
