hybrid shafts: comp nt, irod, etc.

Who's had experience with the graphite hybrid shafts?

 

Just saw the comp nt hybrid, but it's 69g, seems lighter than most hybrid shafts, any experiences with it?

 

Irod experiences?

 

Looking to replace the nv hybrid in the 585 with something with a higher launch.

SM6 Vokey 50* F grind, 56* S grind, 60* M grind--all with KBS 610's
Betti BB53C counterbalanced

The Harrison Impulse hybrid shaft is starting to get alot of play on the tours. I have a tour 105 gram version in my Adams Idea proto 20 and it is high lauch with very little sidespin. I wish I could get another of the tour only shafts for my Adams 17 A2Ts.

 

The retail Impulse hybrid is 85 grams and has the same flex characteristics.

 

I highly recommend the Impulse hybrid shaft.

I have a Irod hybrid stiff shaft in my taylormade fairway rescue. I love this shaft.

 

What's your ss? loading characteristics?

I used to have a Hogan Hybrid with a UST IROD Hybrid shaft in it, and I thought it was SUPERB. Very nice feeling, nice trajectory, and great distance.

 

My 2Iron has an Aldila NV85 hybrid shaft in it, and I love the performance, but it's not the best FEELING shaft. I tend to like "warmer" feeling shafts like UST's, YS-6's, etc. etc. Having said that - it's a very accurate combination.

 

Demoed many hybrids with the Aldila NV85 Hybrid. This shaft always seems to work.

 

FWIW - My Driver SS is 103-105 mph or so, I'm a "hitter" trying to be more of a "swinger".

I have a Taylormade Rescue Dual, with an Accuflex Icon HL shaft in a stiff flex. I highly recommend this for hybrids, as it has a quick launch with an overall boring trajectory for me. It is a substantial shaft, both in weight (i think it is close 100 grams), and in how it loads. No matter how I attack the ball, especially when teed up on short par fours the shaft always feels like it can take more.

I totally agree with this assessment. I can kill the 585h with the Aldila NV85 but the feel of loading up the shaft is not there.

The irod is great, I have it in my Sonartec MD's. High ball flight and great stopping charectaristics on the green.

 

But this weekend I hit the new Adams Idea Pro hybrid with the Aldila VS 80-gram "By You" Graphite Shaft and all I can say is wow. Now I can't speak to how well the ball stops on the green, but they just felt amazing. very smooth, very nice loading characteristics and amazing distance.

 

Ones to avoid in my opinion are the NV which just feels boardish in the hybrid weight and the V2 primarily for the same reason.

I have a Grafalloy Pro Launch Hybrid .370 Shaft in a 17 degree Nickent 3DX Iron Wood, regular flex. For me it is much better than the stock shaft. High launch but no ballooning. A low torque shaft that seems to work very well. Predictable trajectory and distance. I would definitely buy/install this shaft again if I pick up another hybrid.
