Help with swing please.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Just thought i would post my swing up and hope to get some tips to help me improve. One thing i don't like about my swing is i can't seem to get a proper shoulder turn. I get to a certain point where i can turn but then my head turns with my shoulders and it is very frustrating.

Hope i can get some seom drills to work on over the winter months.

don't worry about the head, it's the result of some over rotation caused by your hip slide. fix that and the head will fix itself.

you need spine tilt away from the target at address (and throughout swing). so from the position you're in now, simply tilt your upper body right a couple degrees....you'll feel like your right shoulders lower and your heads a little behind the ball.

and like i said you need to keep your left hip from sliding laterally to the right on the backswing. in the second video, look how much it moves (to the left) in the backswing. compared to pro swing - hunter mahan ....the left hip in the backswing stays exactly where it was.
what you're doing creates spine tilt towards the target at the top of the backswing, rather than away from it, a weak coil, swaying, reverse pivot....not good stuff.

you can coil into your right side/right foot, but that doesn't mean slide over your right side.

you can stick an old shaft in the ground by your left foot so it touches your left hip at address, and then go to the top of the backswing without moving your hip off the shaft. can probably do the same thing against a wall/doorway inside your house without a club. put a chair next to your hip...etc. whatever helps you get the feeling of staying over the left side and maintaining spine tilt away from the target.

and for future videos, you gotta hit an actual ball. the body does different stuff in a real swing vs. practice swing....and there's no use making corrections to a practice swing if there's different stuff going on in a real swing.
