Is my pivot getting better?

Recommended Posts

Making some changes
Here's the swing that I'm coming from a couple months ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jeLu2jpwx8

Bottom line is that I was getting the club stuck by taking the club away too far to the inside, and flipping through impact, not having nearly enough hip turn.

Next post has the "after" swings.

Sorry for the relatively poor quality on these. Hoping to see what you all think about my progress so far in solving some of my issues!

Oh...and in case anyone notices that I'm swinging slightly out to in, I've started to intentionally play a fade by opening my stance up a bit at address.

Thanks!

Can I ask why you raise up before you hit the ball in video 2? I know that is open ended, but If you start to have issue that could be a reason. Other than that,at the end of video you look as if you are exaggerating the follow through. You hesitate, then finish your follow through. Try and get the full follow through as one motion. hope that helps.

DTL it looks like you have worked on that takeaway issue by taking the club outside and laying it off at the top which has its own set of problems, ideally you want the club to move inside on the takeaway and then up, I see what you are trying to do but I think you are trading one problem for another.

A good way to work on the takeaway is to do some mirror work, put a strip of tape on the mirror that covers the shaft at setup, from setup until the position where the club is paralell with the ground on the takeaway the clubhead should trace that path, at this point the clubhead should be right in front of your hands, from here the club goes up to the top and you should get into a better position.

Thanks for the response. I actually raise up a little all the time to varying degrees...pretty much my whole life. I guess it's my version of the forward press. First I align myself and the club to the target, then I get my spine angle where I want it...then I fire away.

As far as the follow through...interesting observation. I usually give it that little extra "stretch" when I've hit a really good shot. It's like the basketball player that holds his release well after the shot goes into the basket. Silly, i guess...but that's the reason!

Thanks...I totally agree. It's a work in progress. I do feel that I'm moving in the right direction as my ballstriking has become a lot more consistent coming from a more upright postion at the top.

I like to comment on the first video, because I think that is the best action (sorry). http://www.youtube.c...h?v=OY09j8mWZAk
If you look at Kaymers top backswing you will see that he covers the ball much better then you do. You have moved off the ball too much to recover it. That is the reason why it looks like your chasing the ball after impact.
I would suggest that you setup more on top of the ball, eliminate as much neck rotation in the BS as you can. And stay on top of the ball in the back swing. And perhaps put the ball 4 inch back in your stance (helps setting up on top of the ball).

Hope this helps.

Sebastiaan
