Where should I play?

I will be in Dallas for a training class next week and I am looking to play some golf. My class gets out around 4 or 4:30 everyday so I am looking for something that I can walk a quick nine before dark. I will play Stevens Park Golf Course for sure because it is only about 3 miles from my hotel. Has anyone played there? Are there any other courses close to downtown that I should play?

I haven't played there for years, but Stevens Park is a muni, but some people really like it. Close to downtown, here are some other public courses near downtown:

 

Cedar Crest (It's in a bad part of town, but I recall enjoying this course)

Tenison Park

Twin Wells in Irving

 

My home course is Great Southwest in grand Prairie, which is private, only 25 minutes from downtown, and the guest fees are cheep after 5pm. Unfortunately, there's not much daylight left these days. If you're willing to meet me out there, drop me a PM or email, hopefully the weather will cooperate. I leave work at 4:30, can be there by 5pm, but this only leaves about 1.5-2 hours of daylight max.

Near downtown - right now, you can play until about 7:30 pm

 

Cedar Crest - real close - don't worry abut where it is - I mean, they hold junior tourneys there - I've played it. Nice track if the greens are decent. Site of 1927 PGA.

 

Tennison Highlands - another recently redone course like Cedar Crest -

I played Steven Park about a year ago and the course was in such bad shape that we quit after 10 holes and asked for and received our money back. The greens were like a fuzzy carpet and the grounds. I was extremely disappointed in the condition and said I would never go back.

 

On the other hand I played Cedar Crest a few weeks later and thoroughly enjoyed the course. It is a A.W. Tillinghast design (since renovated by DA Weibring) that was the site of the 1927 PGA. Although the course had some rough edges like a lot of municipal courses that get a lot of play you could see Tillinghast's influence on almost every hole.

Sam thanks for the offer. I don't know I would have time to make it across town in time to play but if it looks like the class is going to get out early I'll let you know.
