Golfing in Southren California today

Santa Ana Winds- Fly a kite breezy

I was brave today and decided to play in some very high winds, gusts over 70 mph!!! Steadily it was blowing 30 the entire round. We only get winds like this maybe a handful of times a year, so playing in them can be an adventure… Played a very familiar track (133 slope) and shot 78 from the tips with two doubles…

It was very ruff out there, backing off shots, balls rolling off greens, hitting 3 or 4 extra clubs, hitting driver 7I into a 530 yard par 5 and then driver 3I into a 350 yard par 4.

Did anyone brave the conditions and get out? How was it?

Yup...I played Dos Lagos for the first time today. Was prolly blowing consistently at 30mph. I don't recommend playing a course for the first time with those winds...lol. I played fairly well, didn't break 80 (81)! I had to lay up on a 440 yard par 4 LOL, got driver too high, ballooned on me...I basically had 220 dead into wind all carry over water...I coulda tried 3wood i guess, but is it really worth it. I gave myself a makeable par putt laying up.(made bogie)
I had fun surprisingly....was great experience. I had a hard time staying balanced over the ball. (even took wider stance) Also the ball was wobbling on the tee, when I was trying to drive it off the tee box. (a little distracting) Had to play the wind on putts. Hard to get distance correct putting. Some holes there was so many leaves blowing on the green, I couldn't putt for minutes. Was pretty insane, but fun! lol

Hit some at the clubs range for knock down practice.
6i to 150 yrd with a low flight and working draws and fades with a 20+ wind was interesting.

It wasn't too bad in LA. I played starting around 10:00. Made it through 11 before the winds really picked up. Made for an interesting last seven holes to say the least. Nothing like it was out in the Valley areas.

Yeah, I bet. You always have to be prepared for wind when you are playing out in Simi.

I played IW Celebrity course in the desert it was blowing. Nothing different tho lol. I don't mind fighting the wind but when you are fighting the wind and you have crappy greens just gets old fast.
