Anyone ever been there? From what I hear he does some pretty nice work. Just wondering if anyone could share there experience. Thanks in advance.

I have heard a lot of good things but I don't have any personal experience. So I'm interested in this as well as I'm looking to go do a wedge and putter fitting there soon.

Frank Viola is the owner of Ace of Clubs. He fitted me for a new set of Miura irons and shaft upgrade for my driver and a new hybrid. He is a fantastic craftsman. He uses a flightsope to fit clubs. Once I saw all of my data on the flightsope there was no question I was going to get my checkbook out. I will not buy another club off the rack again. You do pay a premium for his service but you also have peace of mind that your clubs were fitted properly and assembled in the correct manner.

Frank has built some drivers (3-4) for me, including these:

He's one of the best in the business with absolute attention to detail. You tell him exactly what you want, and that's how it will arrive.

Awesome guy.

i might just have to make the trip up there on sat....... I'll let you know how i make out. just wondering, i see that he deals with Taylormade and Adams Tour issue equipment, not only him but quite a few others with multiple oother manufacturers as well. how are the getting the stuff? do they just have an account with the oems and that enables them to get the tour only stuff? or maybe a sales rep that has friends in high places?

ive used frank a couple times and the only real issue that i have with him is that i feel like i am at a used car lot (no offense to car salesman). he always tried to fit me into new gear even after i got a fitting and iron set from him. essentally i felt like he was upselling me and i cant stand that.

his workshop is in his home and he has a putting green and net outdoors. he also has a garage fitting range with and tech goodies as well.
In all honesty, frank is just ok but far from the best and i have used some of the best.

in order in terms of quality and customer service:

joe kwok - san francisco
novogolf - NY
ken collins - manchester NH (kustomclubs.com) also sells miura
frank viola

btw, i only live about 35 minutes from him and when i really need to i opt to go to ken collins in NH. i guess that tells you where i stand. if you want a plethora of manufacturer choices novogolf is spectacular.

I'd highly, highly reccommend Joe, and i think alot of guys here would agree

When i first discovered golfwrx, i went to a qualified fitter in NYC, and it was .... okay But that guy was almost exclusively about launch monitor numbers and data, which is a good start

With Joe, man, not only are you getting all the same trackman / flight scope data, but you'll get into conversations about your swing and mechanics, and a very comprehensive fitting, which isnt just about numbers, but also technique

Since my first go in July (to refit my driver shaft the NY guy did), he's reshafted my irons, built me a three wood and hybrid (neither of which you'll ever see on the rack), and now I'm anxiously awaiting Miura wedges with special Joe Kwok grinds. And I'm a better player than I was. Significantly.

No up selling with Joe. I'm always calling him looking for his time, and he's a very straight shooter with whatever the budget is.

I mean, I'm never buying gear from anyone else, because it won't be of the same quality you get from Joe.

I used him once and will not go back.

1) Charged for services I didn't request. (Shaft alignment for a driver re-shaft - a service that I *didn't* want or request nor do I believe is beneficial)
2) Not sure he actually even performed one of the services requested. (Wedge re grooving - noticed zero difference before and after.)
Which leads to my assessment that he is overpriced. I would shop elsewhere if I were looking for club work.

Caveat golfer. :)

@ Billy and Hosel-

Just wondering, given what appears to be both of your locations..... I'm thinking you're commenting on this Frank dude, at Ace of Clubs (who I've never met / have no idea about his work).

And NOT talking about Joe Kwok, the legend on these boards, out of San Francisco?

Just wanted to confirm.

Cheers-

Yes, he just built a set of X-Hot Pros for me with Recoil Prototypes (Callaway heads only account). Everything was dead perfect. Craftsmanship comes at a price in all industries.

i do like his work...somewhat ....i just think he is really expensive. Hotmelting 2 drivers should not cost 140 bucks. I used to have my clubs done by jeff sy in southern california...bestgolf store and he used to charge me 30 bucks for the whole process. He fits many LPGA mini tour players and is reputable by many. Jeff used to do all his work in plain sight..took like 15 mins to have the club hotmelted to perfection. Frank told me to give him 3 hours and come back..i dont live close to saugus and had to wait around.
