Why do people wear their golf collars up?

If people wear their collar up on their everyday shirts then I guess their excused to do it on the course. If they do it just when they play golf, then to me, they look absolutely rediculous and will have me chuckling the whole day because I can picture them looking better with a tennis raquet in their hand rather than a golf club. :)

my golf team did it before it was a teen thing to do.... so the styles have changed and popin the collar is brokeback

I wear them up in summer to keep the sun off my neck, I burn easy, nothing wrong with that is there

I don't wear my collar up but I certainly know of many people that do. I think it is becuase they perceive it as 'cool'. Not my preferred style.

 

most people do it to protect their neck from the sun, and yea it is cool! you wouldnt think its cool cause your an emo!!!

i understand the whole sunburn thing but i guess i should have said why the whole collars up thing indoors - are you gonna burn your neck indoors?? it looks as ridiculous as people wearing sunglasses indoors - come on people pull yourselves together!!

this is the sole reason i do it. however as far as polo's themselves, it seems like they've developed their own heirarchy. I can't believe i'm saying this, but i kind of look down on those kids who where the skin tight upturned collar polo with a moose on it. but if it was a polo player or a whale i'd think they were hip.

 

reason #2: when i was in high school spencer levin did it, and i thought he was the man cause he got kicked out of ucla and he smoked a ton.

I used to do it in the summer but have stopped. I now wear a big cowboy hat (think Charlie Daniels) and t-shirt. The only poppin I do on the course is beer can poppin.

I'm 5'4" and 245lbs. I usually only pop my collar up when the beverage girl comes around :( . I don't know if they flirt with me because of it or because I usually throw at least $20.00 their way in tips. :(

its all about the weather, or a choice in style. I tend to wear mine up because I wear alot of stylish golf clothes and you can't go halfway with it.

I only wear mine up when the sun is just beaming down with no clouds and no wind! There are only a few time that I can count on one hand that I have done this in about 5 years. I do have to tell you that it does help a lot! Thank you for whoever designed the collar! ;)
