I am happy a lot of people have mentioned Adam Scott and I'll join in too. I truly believe he has it in him to be no.1 - of course he has to get that putting fixed. It is quite annoying and erratic but we've seen the times when he gets on a roll and the putts just fall in. This year has been exceptional and it's disappointing if he finishes without a win so hopefully he can do it at the TOUR Championship. He's managed back-to-back top 10 finishes in majors so he's getting ever so close to a victory there. Plus he's 26 and not at his peak yet..the next 5 years should be great :)

If only one could rely on "ifs" like if Sergio got putting lessons, or if Adam could win his first major.... then here's another:

If I win the lotto, quit my job, and go to Ledbetter's swing camp for robots, then I'll make it on the Nationwide Tour, earn a battlefield promotion, win my debut on the PGA, divorce my wife for a 20yr old swedish nanny, and then rail off enough wins over the following two years to, at age 38, de-throne Tiger.

It could happen.

I do not see how anyone can say Adam Scott or Sergio. These 2 guys are more concerned with the cars they drive, the ladies they date and the commercials they make.

It takes a certain mentality to be #1, lets see how Ogilvy reacts to his breakout year, other than that Vijay is fighting a losing battle with father time and Furyk and Donald are not long enough to dominate.

The next best is probably not on tour yet. Unless you want to count a smal blip on the screen like Duval or Singh.

furyk - "no natural talent" ?????????????? hmmm - nice one!!!!! lol! :) He's got tonnes - to swing it like he does he has to have natural talent! Probably think Ernie will make it back to the top if he gets everything right! He's a natural athlete and seems quite positive with the comments he made earlier this month! From the younger brigade probably Adam Scott or maybe someone who is care free and has no commitments off course! i would say Geoff ogilvy but obviously he had a baby a few months back and maybe his priorities will change! I dunno!

If Tiger goes into another "slump" a couple of years from now, he may drop to #2. If that happens I can see someone like Phil, Adam Scott, etc. going back and forth trying to take the spot. However I dont see anyone taking over the the spot permanetly until Tiger is around 40 years old. If someone does challange him for a long period of time it will either be someone you havent heard of yet, or a young guy like Jason Day or Ryan Moore. I really like Ryan Moore, he has proved he can win at the amatuer level, if he didnt have injuies the last two years I think he would have won by now. Look for him to have a big 2007.

The current challangers and why they cant do it:

1. Phil-loses his brain under pressure

2. Ernie- Tiger has him totally psyched out.

3. Furyk-doesnt have the power, or natural talent to challenge day in day out

4. Sergio- no putter, scared of Tiger when he doesent have a teammate to hold his hand. Should have been a soccer player not a golfer.

5. Retief-he's done, will never win another major

6. Adam Scott-no killer instinct, none what so ever. Scared of leading any tournament, I get the feeling he is scared of his shadow, or reflection in the mirror.

7. Camillo- no putter, a pretty boy with no short game.

8. Luke Donald-see Furyk

9. Vijay-age is working against him, had his time to shine when Tiger was rebuilding his swing/no putter.

10. Padraig-not consistant enough, especially in the U.S. reminds me of Colin.

11. Geoff Ogilvy-Hmmmmmmm..........Let's see how responds to winning a major, will he win a few more or will he be the next Davis Love, one major and done winning them.

You hit it dead on...

Tiger has a solid 10-15 years left, assuming he stays healthy...

Good chance of that, considering how many events he plays...

I truly thought Ernie was going to step up to the plate, not to be...

I agree with the concept of, once Tiger is out of the picture, no one will truly dominate...

Way too much talent out there!!!

It is hard to say. Scott and Casey would be great choices. Unfortunately for them, they are not much younger than Tiger. He could reign supreme for a long time. He may at some point lose his No.1 for a time of adjustment, like he did to VJ, but I think he will dominate for a long, long time. Might want to scout some junior golfers half Tiger's age for the honor of. If there was no Tiger, these guys would have to contend with Furyk and Mickelson, who are older. For now, with the points lead he has, even with other guys playing great golf, it will be a long time before it is an issue.

Unless Tiger is injured for a long period of time, I would say look in the junior ranks. What you need is a kid with good talent and total beleif in themselves, money is not the issue, they are gunning for glory. Like someone said in a previous post, you have to be able to get the ball in the hole when it matters most. Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger all had that ability, so did Tom Watson for about 8 years when he dominated.

Adam Scott is not that person, I think he seems like a good guy and has a great swing, but quite frankley his game reminds me of Michele Wie, Charles Howell, Tom Weiskopf, Tom Purzter etc etc people who have a pretty swing but are inconsistant from 100 yards in and on the green.

Not like the other stupid brits on tour

Watch your lip!!! Well the "stu-pid brits" like PAUL CASEY(legend) ,Luke Donald where a vital part in giving the usa another a** kicking in the ryder cup for the 3rd time in a row!!!!!

Suck on that!!!!!

While I think it is rude to call Brits stupid, I have met some and they all seem like good chaps, I think he was referring to the fact that they dont win major, they just win team competiions and exhibitions. Golf is and individual sport and the Brits only excel at the team game

There is so much talent on the PGA tour right now that it's hard to say who might be the next #1 player. It could be any of 30 or 40 guys on tour, there seems to be loads of new talent plus some of the guys with half a dozen years under their belts, that haven't matured in their mental games yet.

Many on here seem to think that only a younger guy will take over the #1 spot, where I say it will more than likely be someone around the same age as Tiger who comes to maturity in their game who will be the new #1.

One thing for sure, none of us have that crystal ball in front of us to use or to predict who will be the next #1.

The young guys can practice all they want to, and practice the right things but if they aren't programmed or destined to become that good, and that great, then they won't be. I'm of the opinion that #1's are born and not made. :fool: But they do have to work hard at it also. ;)

If Sergio could putt well consistently he would dominate... ;)

If "if's" and "but's" were candies and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas! Aint gonna happen!
