Heading to Topsail beach,Nc

A few of us are headed to Topsail beach, nc in late August. My friend is the course manager at TPC Wakefield so we will be playing there. Any other suggestions? Riverside?

The best course in the Topsail area is North Shore CC. It is in Sneads Ferry, right before you cross the high rise bridge to go to the north end of Topsail Island. A distant second would be Castle Bay in Hampstead.

Wakefield is a good course in Raleigh. You may ask your friend if he can call and get you on Cape Fear CC in Wilmington (about 45 min from Topsail). It is private, but they will probably do reciprocal with Wakefield. It is a classic Donald Ross design.

If you want to play around Topsail, I second the North Shore recommendation. Other courses that are close to Topsail are Castle Bay, Belvedere, and Olde Point. Castle Bay is the best of those three. Olde Point and Belvedere usually aren't too busy and are fun courses, though. CFCC can be tough to go onto. Another nice private course is Landfall--one Nicklaus and one Dye design. There are a couple of courses in Wilmington. Porters Neck is a nice, private course. Eagle's Point--you gotta know someone. The Municipal is a Dye desig, but it is super busy all the time and they just punched the greens. Beau Rivage and Masonboro are decent clubs worth checking out. South of Wilmington--Mangolia Greens isn't a bad course and Cape Fear National is pretty fun course.

Played topsail cc on fri and it's in horrible condition, punched fairways w sparse grass and shaggy greens. I would avoid
Magnolia greens on sat, it was in good shape overal but not great, the third nine is the best of the three in every way, but pace of play was really slow. 5:30 mins to finish.
Cape fear nat on Sun; do yourself a favor and go play here. 3:30 min round, perfect greens and fairways and a all around awesome layout

Anyone played Cape Fear National recently that can comment on conditions? Looking to escape the mountain snow and ice if conditions are decent.
