Southern Dunes or Legend Trail??

help us decide

We're going to be in the Mesa area next week and looking to play either Southern Dunes or Legend Trail on Friday the 27th. We already have We-Ko-Pa Saguaro and Las Sendas booked.

They are both the same price on golfnow, but 2 very different courses. We reside near chicago, so we have played our share of links courses in the midwest. We definitely like playing Desert courses since it's so different from what we see near Chicago.

The question ...is Southern Dunes that much better than that of a typical links style course? I don't want to make a tee time there and feel like we've seen this done that.

Also thoughts on Legend Trail would be great too. I've seen some good reviews on it, and it's usually pretty pricey to play there.

Just for perspective, we've played:

Gold Canyon - Dino - loved the elevation changes
Rancho Manana - one of my favorites
Trilogy of Vistancia - I'm guessing this is more of what Southern Dunes will look like, but hopefully way better
Eagle Mountain
Sunridge Canyon

You can't go wrong with Southern Dunes. Its out there from Mesa, but well worth the drive. Unfortunately I can't comment on Legend Trail, haven't played it, but if you look over the Southwest sub forum you will notice general love for Southern Dunes from us locals. Enjoy your stay and have a good time.

I've played legend trail and sd and I would hands down pick southern dunes. Go to their website and do the course flyover, it's awesome. Not one bad hole out there,y favorite one to play out here by far.

Also, I know you didn't ask for my opinion lol but I'd play longbow over las sendas

If you [i]really liked[/i] Rancho Manana, then I'm not sure what to recommend. Perhaps Lookout Mountain or Arizona Grand.

Disregarding where you might pigeon hole it in regards to style (links vs. desert vs. ...) Southern Dunes is a very good course, in my top ten public and worth the drive. Legend Trail is good too, but in my second ten.

when you play sd think about a pro shooting 9 under thru 10 from the tips, there's alot of great golfers out there. btw sd is still my fav in the area, I have played it 5times now,

What did he finish up with?
My buddy quadruple bogied 18 to shoot a 68 in a college tourney, pretty incredible.

fore they didn't finish it was the match play event, all american cup won by nick taylor, former number one am in the world from canada.quad for 68 is quite a score as well,
