Sneak peek at the 13 hole Par 3 loop at Bandon Dunes

TaylorMade Golf invited some media members including GolfWRX to 'The TaylorMade Short Game Experience' at Bandon Dunes this week, for the launch of the ATV Wedge and Manta Putters. We were all lucky enough to play 'The Preserve', a 13 hole Par 3 that is not yet open to the public. Here are some pictures hole-by-hole of this extremely cool, challenging layout. More stuff to follow later in the week. Enjoy!

(FYI, shot 6 over, but was 4 over in the rain after 2 holes, so not bad).

YES... Amazing! I had no idea Bandon was opening another track. I have been strongly considering requesting North Bend as my next duty station. Just being able to play one of the Bandon loops once a week would make four years back in the rain and cold worth it. I have been to Bandon twice and it is truly golf Mecca.

We hit off lie boards to protect the tees. Some of the course is still growing in. It didn't hurt us at all though.

Definitely the coolest Par 3 course I've ever seen. Nothing looks manufactured.

Overview

Designed by Bandon Trails architects, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Bandon Preserve starts on the land adjacent to the first tee at Bandon Trails and rolls down toward the beach. The layout provides stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from every hole.

All net proceeds from The Bandon Preserve Golf Course will benefit The Wild Rivers Coast Alliance. The Alliance supports projects that protect the rich lands and waters of The South Coast. Through conservation, The Alliance will create jobs for our local residents.

The Bandon Preserve will also protect and preserve the Silvery Phacelia, an endangered plant species whose habitat is threatened by non-native plants. By reclaiming the open sand along the Preserve, the Silvery Phacelia will once again be able to flourish in the region."[/indent]


We all had new TaylorMade ATV wedges built to our specs to play with and a Manta putter.

Actually, now that I think about it, I remember seeing holes under construction last time I played there. So stoked to go back. I still need to play Bandon Trails (and the new par 3 course, of course).

I have my first trip to Bandon booked for October, playing 36 a day for four days, each course twice. And I passed on the idea of playing 'The Preserve', but these pics are seriously making me reconsider my plans...Thanks for the gallery!

Oh I can hang...as long as I don't get stupid drunk every night. God knows what objects I'd walk into head first after a few too many beverages.

I'll let you financially recover from Pebble before I get you dreaming about your next golf trip.

Definitely play it. It's a fun 2 hours or so. Course looks like it's been there forever, created by nature. I don't remember the last time I went around a Par 3 course, but it wasn't like this one!
