What makes Scotty Cameron putters so special?

I have been aware of Scotty Cameron putters since they first showed up in the Titleist product line. However, I never viewed them as anything that unique. That said, since joining this forum I have read numerous posts on Cameron putters and notice that a majority of active members play Cameron's or own multiples. Even after reviewing these posts, I am still at a loss as to why Cameron putters are so highly coveted. So, what makes a Cameron so special?

GolfWRX has been able to draw a large number of putter afficiandos. People who played, collected, or tried almost every putter on the market for the past x number of years. Scotty has built a loyal following based on success, marketing, and improvements on classic and some new designs. Check the FAQ for alot of people's input in the thread below.

The Feel is the main thing. Other that that it's the ability to send them in to get retored to like new condition. Also, when you start getting into the ones costing in the thousands, you have the different finishes stampings and all that making each one unique.

 

To me, it's the feel, but I prefer the carbon steel models ofhis over the stainless steel ones.

Keep in mind not all Camerons are nice.

 

I personally don't like the Studio Stainless line, I even liked the Grand Bolero Caliente that I had more.

 

I do love the Gun Blue/Oil Can line almost top to bottom. The Circa's are growing on me and will grow even more if the price comes down soon.

I think its unfair to say that the putter guys here are Cameron biased. On some cameron forums, I've heard this board called anti-cameron more than anything else. Bettinardi, Mills, Byron aren't exactly 2nd tier guys...

I agree. I mainly play Camerons, but Ask Jay and Steve. I play the Mills and Byrons and Pings and Odysseys and everything else as well. Yes, alot of people use them, but alot of people use other brands as well. That doesn't mean that 1 is better, as what a person putts with is personall preference.

There are special putters from Cameron, Mills, Bettinardi, Byron, and Grace. . .

Market decides the price, and some vintage Scotty putters are really expensive if some one decides to sell it on ebay. Some old Ping putters are in the similar situation.

Some putting experiments has showned that, for putting purpose, many other putters are just as good as Scotty's, if not better.

 

Another way to think is "putting is between ears". You are confident on the green because you have the "best" putter, and if you missed 1 foot putt, you know the problem can't be the putter. I need a shorter shaft (30-31) putter, and Scotty's are just too light if I just cut the shaft. If they do have putter with the right shaft length and right head weight, I might get one also, for the confidence reason. (Or when I am rich enough, I might also spend 3 grand getting a hand-made putter from Scotty.)

I have tried just about everything out there (except Byron...) and I can't find anything that rivals the Cameron line in variety, feel, and the ability to inspire confidence. Many Cameron players are big anti insert guys as well which eliminates a few brands...

Putters are so personal like some have said in here.

 

I have personally tried alot of putters...

 

now please don't think of this as biased because of me being with Slighter Golf.

 

I have putt with a GSS CT Cameron made for Cameron Beckman. The putter was gorgeous.

I have putt with a TP Mills custom... that putter was one of the best I have ever felt.

I have a Palombi coming... from what i have heard... George's putters are great!

I have a Cameron Holiday Napa... feels great with good weight to it and a great look!

I don't have a byron... but will soon probably.

I have two Slighter Golf putters... These putters rival Cameron's feel in my Personal experience. I will say that when I take my Newport 2 i have and putt with it... It does not give me near the confidence nor the warm fuzzy feeling that I get when I take my Slighter Tacoma out of the bag. Custom putters are great. They give the player a great confidence knowing that someone took the time to make them a putter personally.

I also have a Ping Anser with a soundslot that was my dad's until he gave it to me. I LOVE that putter! Probably putt the best with it next to my Slighter TAC.

 

Even in Fargo, ND I have gotten to putt with alot of great putters! What I like... some will and some won't!

 

Golfwrx is great because of all the putter nuts on this forum.

They are special to some people, and not so special to others. Scotty Cameron as a company is a marketing genious. Helped to have Tiger on board ;) Scotty gives great attention to his tour players and we see that on TV when alot of tour players have Camerons in the bag.

 

Lots of good putters and creators out there. Every single one of them is special to someone.
