Senior flex....help or not

I'm 62 and am still rehabing from a broken elbow. I haven't measured my swing speed but it's not fast. I'm lucky if I hit my drives 130 yards.

I hit a callaway f5 driver with R flex and decided to try to the same driver in light flex. I'm not really noticing much difference in distance.

My best drive with the senior stick went a little further than my best with the R...but that was one drive. the others seem to go about the same distance with the R flex giving more consistant location.

 

What's your experience?

Is 130 yards a typo or is that the actual distance you hit a driver???.....if that is actually your distance, shaft flex is not going to make any real difference at all....the shaft is not flexing enough at that low a swing speed to have any affect.

Do nothing that costs money until your elbow is 100% or close. Then see a pro. You may be favoring the elbow, don't realize it and thus not following through, or hitting as hard as you may be able. As OP said, you need to be able to flex the shaft. Good rule to follow: softest flex you can conrol. It's easier on the body, easier to play and will give the best results. Good luck with the rehab!

I am 76 And had a right hip replaced in February.
I had an A shaft put into a three year old Nike driver head
As an experiment.it has made it easier for me. Any golf galaxy type should do the job for less than $50.
An A shaft is a senior shaft commonly labeled by most manufacturers. Have it tipped on the weak side when the installer cuts the raw shaft. I am still using my Ap 2 irons with 5.5 rifle ( non flighted) to my satisfaction

I've been thinking about getting a new driver and was wondering if changing to a "Senior Flex" will make much, if any difference. I currently hit a Cobra S2 Offset (regular flex graphite shaft) about 190-210 yds with a swing speed of 80 -85mph. I would consider my swing to be a non-aggressive type...It's not the "grip-it-and-rip-it" but a more smooth, controlled swing. Any thoughts and comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm pushing 75. My last driver was a Ping G20 with a senior flex shaft. This carried the ball 200 yds but dropped and stopped. Recently switched to a Titleist 910 D2 with the Diamani 'ilami shaft in A flex. Still carry 200 yards but now get 20 yards of roll. I think it depends on which A flex you use as some are stiffer than others. Best to get fitted.
