best modern ball to use with persimmon

I have sets of Macgregor M75W and Tommy Armour 693T woods and want to play with them, but am concerned about possible damage that modern balls may do to the club. Any suggestions on which balls would be best? Thanks

i use the wilson zip, found 6 dozen on ebay - also use them with my hickory clubs

others say the prov1 or the srixon soft feel green - no experience with these

I found the Precept Laddie is a good "soft" ball. works well with my hickories as well.

You bring up a good question, and it has relevance for me because I also have some vintage persimmons with which I am reluctant to hit modern golf balls.

The suggestions made so far are based on subjective "feel' of a soft golf ball, and in fact the compressability (if thats a word) of these balls may be similar to vintage balata balls, but I wonder if that is the whole story.

While these balls may feel soft, is their any difference in the potential damage of persimmon impacting a modern urethane or surlyn cover as opposed to a balata cover, and a solid core rather than a liquid center wound core?

I guess what I'm getting at is, is there any real evidence on this question, other than subjective opinions?

I've had no issues with any new ball playing my old laminate 7wd full time.

Any soft cover ball will be OK, but stay way away from the Top Flight=rock hard type balls. They will 'chew' on inserts. I've used Titleist So-Lo's when I take my old clubs out.

You can use most any ball with your Louisville Golf Persimmon wood. Most modern balls are soft and feel great coming off the face of a Persimmon wood. One important consideration when choosing a golf ball is trajectory, or spin. A Persimmon wood traditionally spins the ball less than a metal “wood” with the same loft so if you have a smoother swing you might want to play a ball with a higher spin rate, especially if you find your trajectory is lower than what you want.[/size][/indent][/color]
