Need Reviews, Ping Redwood Anser

Nice club. My only take is the price, and the "click" sound that I felt when I used it last week @ my local pro-shop. I would suggest an old Studio Stainless by Scotty instead if you like the Anser. The Grip I like alot, and in fact would like to find the exact one to use on my Circa '62. Let us know what you think about, and if you decided to go with it.

Good Luck!

Loved both the anser and the piper, especially the piper. Nice feel on both and nice weight.

Unlike the others, I didn't notice any particular "click." I thought these putters sounded great and they are truly a work of art. The finish on the Redwood series is gorgeous. Truly a great line of putters and I'm not even a big Ping fan.

Try one and you won't be dissapointed.

redwood is just a belated attempt at replicating scotty camerons weight and feel.... just my opinion but i feel its true, scotty copied the shapes noww they copy the feel.... who wins? i dont know but they are both fantastic putters.....

Ping had the original Ansers way before Scotty even had a putter business. The newport, that's an anser. Ping just didn't make a milled putter for awhile, but they definitely started the anser and what not.

I received mine a few weeks ago and had a chance to play with it last week. The one I got was lighter colored when compared to my reps. Guess that must be variation in the Black Nickel Chrome process. Actually pretty hard to tell that it is "black". It has a very nice feel to it for putts under 20 ft. The alignment line and the general sharp milled lines make it very easy to line up putts. I played the front side with it and the back side with a Scotty GSS Tiger duplicate. Very similar in feel for putts under 20 ft. but the Cameron is a better putter (for me) in terms of feel for putts over 20 ft. Don't know the actual weight of the Ping, but do know the Cameron is 350. The Ping feels a little light by comparison. I'm going to try some lead tape to see if that makes a difference in the Ping. I would still pick the Cameron for all around use, but this is an excellent ping putter and certainly a good step back to a solid faced/milled putter. I think I am going to compare it to an JAS anniversary hand ground scottsdale anser I have as well (just maganese bronze).

My gamer has been almost exclusively a Scotty (a custom Newport Gun Blue) for the past two seasons. I've had my Redwood (35", black dot) for just two weeks, and since it's snowing this week, I'll throw in my two cents.

Visually, the redwood appears much more "square" than any of the Camerons I've normally play. The top line particularly looks thicker, but even the bumpers look more "blockish." (Sorry if I'm making up words here, but I think YKWIM).

I agree that the grip is terrific. IMHO, it's preferable to the Scotty Winns only because it feels a tad thicker. Very similar feel or maybe such slightly less tacky. The wrapping of the logo on the sides of the grip provide me with an excellent memory aide (unintentionally?) of where to play my hands.

The feel is more similar to some of PP's I have played rather than the softer Gun Blue or Studio Style. I would describe the feel as firm with a great deal of feeback on off-center putts. I have yet to get accustomed to the putter and find myself missing the "solid" feel in my Scottys on well struck putt. Maybe it's just the slight difference in sound.

The headcover is a bit of a monster and, for my tastes, a little too red. I suspect the velco at the bottom won't last too long, it's maybe 1"X 2" and hardly necessary given the smallish opening in the cover. I have found you need to "lever" the putter back into the cover. It's secure, but not real easy to take on and off.

Overall, I think I agree with all the users here that the Redwood is a solid return for PING into the milled putter market. Let's hope they go forward from here and not let this line die on the vine as they did with the JAS series. I'll sum it up to say that if I had a must make putt from any distance today, I'd still choose my Scotty gamer, but you could do much worse than giving the Redwood a try.

Looking for some reviews on this. Especially about the weight. I can't putt with light putters (really can't putt at all (cool) ). Does this one have a nice "heft" to it?

Having putted with my 356g Byron Test Type with the UST FF shaft (that adds a few SW points), the redwood did not have the "HEFT" that I like, but the one I was putting with was <34 inches, so that may have had something to do with it feeling a bit light for my taste.

That said, it remains a very nice putter.

Just for those who don't know their Camerons inside out, a GSS Scotty costs thousands of dollars (not sure but most GSS I can recall at tablerock and AOP start around $4k.) Keep that in mind re: this particular head to head comparison.

Personally, I'm waiting for the Zing as a potential replacement for my Oil Can Santa Fe, but they're still not out yet.
