First time going to a PGA event...tips??

My wife and I are going to go to a practice day for the Ryder Cup this year in Medina. Living 2 1/2 hours away, I feel I am obligated to go to at least a practice day. This will be my first time going to a PGA event, so are there any tips anyone can think of to get me a little more prepared?

Disagree with above...most definitely wear your golf shoes, along with everything else you'd wear for your normal Saturday round. You'll fit right in with the 50% of the gallery that seems to expect thier name to be called for the first tee any second.

I had the exact same question for the same day of that event.

Biggest question i had is there a time which the range time/ practice rounds are or do they just randomly range it up then roll out in the course with who ever.

#1 - I hope you have already purchased tickets cuz they will not be selling them at the gate.

#2 - if you have tickets already, wear whatever you will be the most comfortable walking a lot in.

#3 - there will be 40,000+ fans & volunteers all trying to watch 24 players play golf, so expect to see very little if you try to follow a group. Best bet is get there early, find a good seat in the bleachers on the 2nd or 3rd hole, then once the last group goes thru, jump ahead to about the 11th or 12th hole. Get lunch and wait for the 1st group to come thru that hole. Again, after that last group goes thru, jump up to somewhere around the 18th green and wait again.

Just a side note, the PGA of America runs the Ryder Cup (same group who run the PGA Championship), not the PGA Tour (which runs the President Cup).

The teams practice as a team and the times will be what posted as to which team will tee off at what time for practice rounds but not necessarily which player(s) will be at what time or with whom.

The Ryder Cup and President's Cup are much different than your typical PGA events. You are going to have the same large crowds, but with only 24 players, the ratio of gallery to player skyrockets, making being a spectator challenging. Come early, park yourself and watch them pass through. Or try to follow groups, but be prepared to compete with massive crowds for a glimpse of the top of Tiger's hat. The driving range is another option. Again, come EARLY.

Thanks for the info, I will not be yelling out anything, and will try to restrain myself from doing the shooter guns when someone makes a putt. I am going to get tix via stubhub, there are still lots on there for the practice day we plan on going to. Should I try and follow a few groups for awhile and then try to post up around a green, or keep with one group the whole time? I just don't want to go there and get to see the top of backswings and that's it all day...

I have attended more professional golf tournaments over the last 4-5 years than if not everyone on GolfWRX, 99.999% (including past Ryder Cups).

The recommendations to not yell anything are very, very good. Plus, there is no way that Captain Love III will consider your pairings recommendations if you are some maniac yelling "Put Bubba with Tiger!"

You need to write them down on a piece of paper and run up to him real fast and give them to him.
