Wilson 8813 Restoration

Got Bored Today. LOL

Hey Guys,

Git this putter in today from Kyle. As you can see it had a good amount of bag chatter and a decent ding on the sole. Well, since I had NOTHING to do today, I decided to restore it. Never done a putter of this style before. Stated to work on it and a little over an hour later it was in the condition you see it now. Pretty happy withthe results. Have to redo the paintfill, tried to remove the excess too early :) :) Checking to see whatyall think about it's final look now compared to how it was when I got it. Take it easy on me. LOL

Very nice work! How did you go about doing that? I think that you did a fantastic job.

I used 6 differnt buffing wheels are various firmsess and compounds of various Grit. I had sandblasted it when I had finished, but ended up not liking the look, hence, polished finish.

Nice job! I am working on an old brassMaster right now I will post after pics when I am done... but for now here is a few before... so far I have cut a sound slot and polished out all the major damage .. now is just the finishing touches .. to be done on the weekend

Ive been a serial tinkerer of golf clubs for years,and have had a go at satin finishes,rusting,blueing,oil quenching etc etc - you name it - ive "had a go".Some with more success than others i might add........

 

If thats anything like your first attempt at this sort of thing then: FULL KUDOS - "Top job" that man

LOL. Yeah, it was first time to try this model. I am liking it. Glad I decided not to beachit. that would have taken away from it. THought about stripping the finish and applying a GB or BO but just can't get myself to do it. Basically all I have experimented with in the past is #x Black, BO, GB, and OC. Still want to do Nicel plating, copper plating and figure out how the heck scotty gets his OC's to come out like he does. LOL One day i'll figure it out.

To be honest Kyle, I just refinished it to give it away again. LOL As I told you.....It was for a project in my spare time.

I got a whole set of heads for $15 dollars. not looking for anything crazy just a recondition. Let me know. I know putters are your thing but just thought playing with someone elses clubs with no worries might interest you. Scotty B

NOOOOO!!! Don't feed Chris's ego. It's healthy enough. His avatar at TCC is a big old gorilla, and there's a reason that you're not supposed to feed gorillas. :)

 

Seriously, that's some great work Chris. Hat's off and all that--you really did a number on that putter. I disagree with your choice in paintfill, but I've seen you make worse decisions. But you should definitely should be commended as much for what you didn't do (beaching, snow, "original" stamping, etc) as for what you did. You sir, are the Jack of all trades.

You know, I have an old Acushnet non-flange bulls eye (not the one we talked about) with original shaft and grip...head is covered in black...shaft is surface rusted...would make a great project

 

Yeah, I'd trade it for a Wilson...hehe...
