A couple of months back my wife and I stayed and played at Sea Island a few days. A few pics...[attachment=1253636:100_1597.JPG][attachment=1253638:100_1601.JPG][attachment=1253640:100_1607.JPG][attachment=1253642:100_1610.JPG][attachment=1253644:063.JPG][attachment=1253646:062.JPG][attachment=1253648:064.JPG]

This place only gets better with time. Hopefully, the new owners dont mess it up any. Classy place.

Given that the place declared bankruptcy, the new owners are SAVING the place. :)

The courses are beautiful - and this sounds funny - but they have the most beautiful aprons surrounding the greens - like carpet. Wonderful place.

If you're staying ON the resort there are several places that are outstanding but expensive. Off-site it's a small town and very "local". There's a local barbecue place in the middle of town (you'll know it when you see it) but it's outstanding.

Southern Soul BBQ - its by the roundabout at the other end of the airport; good food.

Brogens - by the pier; good food

Crabdaddys - located by the King and Prince; good food/saw Kooch there.

The food at the Lodge is good; the Lodge burger eaten inside the lockerroom is good.

Check with the staff as my lunches were included in my package so I hit up the lockerroom daily but there are other options.

Have fun!!!!

I have been there - 1 putting lesson from Mike Shannon was outstanding - best I've ever had.

Another time, I took a full-swing lesson from Jack Lumpkin which was more of a "ho hum" boring experience, nothing earth shattering even though he's got a nice resume, I didn't think that he provided anything revealing or eye opening.

Recommend Mike Shannon very much if you need help with the flat stick.

I took lessons there back in the 90's when it was four nine hole courses and they didnt have the Lodge. The Learning Center was there and I took lessons from Jim Goergan, Mike Taylor, and had one by Gale Peterson. This was over the course of several years. Each summer they used to have a junior clinic where you could go a few times a week and they would work with you. They know their stuff.

It is my opinion that Randy Shannon ranks right up there with the best putting instructors (Dave Stockton, Jackie Burke, etc) and I would love to get a lesson by him next time I go down to stay.

I have family that lives down on Sea Island. Enjoy!

Southern soul maybe the best BBQ place I have ever been to.
I would echo Crab Daddy's as well.

There are a few places off of Fredrica rd that are pretty good spots for reasonable prices.

Fredrica Cafe is a good breakfast spot.

Tramicci's.
Halyards .
Delaneys Bistro.

Jmac's is also a decent spot in St simons Village.

Also try Sals Pizza on Frederica Road as well as Gnats down the road from it. Sals is a small place and Gnats is a local bar. Been to both and have no complainmts. Gnats is right next to DL3's paddle and putt store.

Is Southern Soul the "shack" that is on the corner on the left as you drive away with SI behind you? I know it when I see it, but don't know the names of the streets.

It has picnic tables and at one time about 4 years ago there was a fire?

I forgot about Halyards. Very good food and a little quieter than Mullet Bay. I would throw out Rafters as a pretty good place to go too although I havent been in a few years though as when we go back we typically go to Southern Soul and cant hardly walk afterwards as there is so much food.

Does anyone know if Frankie G's is still open? It was over by Harris Teeter. If so, they have some killer Brunswick Stew.

Plenty down near the pier if you are staying down in/near Sea Island.

Past that.. Most of the late night gigs are at Redfern Village.

For a good dinner, Blackwater Grill, or out on the causeway at the marina is Coastal Kitchen. Both are good.

I played Sea Island like 2 weeks ago.. Decent shape, enjoyed my round. Green were a tad slow compared to Hampton Club, but the collars and bunkers at Seaside were in fantastic shape. Overall, it's a helluva place to play. Tee boxes are so nice you don't want to take a divot with an iron!

The outward 9 is the best of the bunch, course starts to get tight from the tee box, and really screws with your eye and alignment. Once you tee off, you get to the landing area and it's huge in some cases.

Only two par 5's and they usually play into the wind, nothing to scoff at, and not a perfect chance at birdie. 18 is a good hole, but 14 is probably one of my most favorite holes out there. It's beautiful right on the water with marshes coming in. It's a helluva view from the tee box, tiny landing area, bunkers, trees and marsh. Once you hit the fairway, it's a pretty easy shot in. I hit a PW in, and 2 putted for par, and it's just pure awesome wrapped up in one hole.

Here's a pic from that hole, this is from the back tees.
