Golf in Charlotte

Traveliing with 7 guys to Charlotte in early October. Looking to play 3 rounds of golf. Can anyone suggest some nice courses. Last 2 trips have been Doral and PGA National. We don't want to do alot of driving so something within 30 minutes but some nice upper end courses. I have been looking but seems to be alot of private clubs .ie Quall Hollow and TPC Piper Glen. I am not sure if they allow daily walkons.Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Here's a half dozen decent layouts in the area worth checking out: Ballantyne, Birkdale, Highland Creek, The Tradition, Skybrook, maybe drive down to Monroe for the Monroe CC, an old Donald Ross layout

If you don't have the connections to get on the private courses like Quali Hollow, Longview, Charlotte Country Club, etc. then give these a look.
Springfield, Carolina Lakes, and Edgewater are all on the southeast side of the city just into S.C. and are the better semi private/public courses in the area.
Verdict Ridge and Olde Sycamore are also decent.
I would stay away from the Carolina Trail couses and Regent Park. All are ok layouts but the conditions are lacking.

Edgewater might be a little far from Charlotte for his taste. If you are looking for truly high level public golf, then there it isn't much if any of that in Charlotte. It wouldn't kill you to call around to private clubs, but there is zero chance of getting on Charlotte CC or Quail Hollow. I don't think odds would be much better at Carolina, Myers Park or Carmel, but after those five you never know.

Move your trip 90 miles east to Pinehurst instead. Charlotte has plenty of golf, but the only high end courses we have are private and not easily accessible.

I wouldn't make a golf trip out of Charlotte. Just isn't enough here to make it worth it unless you can play some of the private courses. Even then the top 2 or 3 private courses are next to impossible. I play most of my golf out of Verdict Ridge and while I really enjoy it, no way I would make it a destination.

Go to Pinehurst or Myrtle Beach instead.

We decided on Old Sycamore, Ballyntyne and we got on TPC Piper Glen the ;last day.

We have the races on Saturday night.

Looks like a good trip

Now all we need is good weather.
