Kiawah in February

Hey fellow golfers, I am thinking of playing in a tournament in Kiawah in February and wanted to know what the weather is like in that area that time of year. I saw on Weather.com that the highs are in the 60's and the lows are in the 40's but that doesn't tell me if those 60's feel like 40's and the 40's feel like 20's. Really want to play the courses but don't want to freeze my nuts off in the process. Thanks!!!

You will sometimes get a spectacularly nice day in February on the SC coast. Sunny, maybe 65-70 degrees, low humidity and mild breezes. But you're talking maybe one chance in ten of a Chamber of Commerce day like that in early February. By the end of the month maybe one chance in four or five.

A normal or typical day that time of year is going to be a wind out of the north or northeast at 10-15mph and quite cool in the mornings. Best bet would be to play after lunch when most days it will get up into the 50's, sometimes even 60's. That cold breeze on a 40-degree morning in the winter is not much fun IMO.

And there is definitely about a one in four chance of rain on any given February day. That will be usually a cold, soaking rain on a dark day. No fun at all.

It's basically a roll of the dice.

Keep in mind that the high temp for the day occurs around 3pm, so even on a "typical" day you could be playing in temps in the low 50s, and if there is a breeze (which is more than likely), it will be quite chilly.

I agree with the above. about half the Feb days are good to great. About a fifth of the days are miserable. If you are playing the Ocean Course, the effects of bad weather will be magnified considerably in your enjoyment factor and your score. Windy at Osprey Point is easy. Windy at Turtle Point is more difficult. Windy at the private courses is tough (particularly Cassique) but windy on the Ocean Course is brutal. What course are you playing?

Agree with windy at the Ocean course. Just played as Sandy blew through, went back over 90 for the first time in a long time. I have to agree with what everyone is saying above, total roll of the dice. Just bring shorts and pants, short sleeves and a parka. Be prepared for everything and have a good time. I play in MB every January, and as long as you know what you are getting into going in, you are fine.

If you are doing Ocean +, I would recommend Osprey, Turtle, Cougar, with Oak being my least favorite. The views at Osprey and Cougar are amazing. The par 3 6th on Cougar might be one of my favorite holes down there, not on the Ocean course.

If you can, do it. Great time and great course. Just pack well...
