Golf Channel HD - WOOHOO!

Just got a message on my Comcast DVR that starting Jan 3 2007 channel 665 will be the HD feed of the golf channel! At night will be some other programming but that means PGA tour events thursday/friday coverage will be HD. As FYI I am in the Seattle area.

Comcast to Launch New HD Sports Channel

DIRECTV reportedly will carry the network; TV Week confirms earlier TVPredictions.com report.

Washington, D.C. (November 16, 2006) -- Comcast will launch a new High-Definition sports channel in January.

 

That's according to a TVWeek.com report published yesterday, confirming an earlier article by TVPredictions.com

 

The channel will feature a simulcast of The Golf Channel during the day and Versus content at night. Versus, formerly known as The Outdoor Life Network, airs high-def action from the National Hockey League, boxing and other minor sports.

 

Comcast owns both The Golf Channel and Versus. However, TV Week reports that DIRECTV has agreed to carry the new high-def channel, which will be called Versus/Golf Channel.

 

One reason for the launch: In the past, Comcast (and other cable operators) have broadcast NHL action and other sporting events on INHD 2, However, In Demand, the parent company of INHD and INHD 2, said this week that the two channels will merge in January. So cable operators will need a new channel to broadcast special event high-def sports.

 

The Golf Channel's high-def coverage will include PGA tournament action and other events.

Aww man, not fair. There's only one way for me to get HD for my DirectTv, and that's have a 30 foot pole on mi house. Guess I'll have to squint at the regular Golf Channel for now.

I've got Time Warner HD (western ohio).... Does this mean they aren't going to have The Golf Channel on HD :fool:

I also read on another site that all CBS and NBC golf coverage will be available in HD!!!! I'm crossing my fingers!!! LOL

are people sure that is going to be in HD. I think that you would see something about it on the golf channel web page. And if not there, I think that they would mention it on their broadcast. To this point I have not heard anybody on tv talking about an HD broadcast.

the channel is HD...it also is suppost to be playing HD hockey games...i guess the HD content is dependent on what tournament they are at...

 

note on Golfs Channels coverage...its pretty cool to watch golf at night...much better than ugly betty

I third that motion, bought a hd tv last year and only get 6 channels in hd for the low low price of 19.95 added on to my already high cable/internet/digital phone package!

I watched too. Not in HD and the sound through my surround system was not vey good. Voices were not coming from the center speaker
