Has anyone played Framingham Country Club?

I am considering joining and looking for some of the following information and would love to hear from folks with experience playing the course:

 

Course design - good or bad?

 

Course conditions - good or bad?

 

Pace of play.

 

Club atmosphere generally.

 

Anything else anyone can contribute.

I would recommend you play it before joining. The two sides are very different. The front is somewhat tight, straight and mostly dry. The back more open with doglegs and water. I enjoy playing there but it's not my favorite Mass course. Course conditions have always been very good. The design is challengiing if a bit of a mish mash. Donald Ross, William Mitchell and Geoff Cornish have all worked on it.

You are in the middle of a high tech/high income area. Membership reflects that. I don't know that many members, but you will probably need to sort through a few to find your fit. Big pool for the family, restaurants are ok, I like the bar a lot. The atmosphere is not too stuffy, but like at any private club, there are a few douchebags. Lockeroom is ok.

There are some very good players at the club and I've never had a problem with pace of play. They have a caddie program during the summer, which I love.

Thanks for the thoughts. Are you a member? I am planning to play it before I join, even if it might not be until the spring as they have just gone to temporary greens - it's just not the same playing approach shots to 30-40 yards short of the regular green locations. But perhaps I can walk it this side of the new year and at least get a sense of the layout.

Did you ever end up joining Framingham CC? Why/why not? I've been looking into this place for next season over the past couple of months and am curious to get a take on it.

Hi,

I did not join Framingham after all for a variety of reasons (but joined another course) so unfortunately I can't provide you with more information on the club. I went through the facilities and they look really nice. I never played got to play the course.

I was a member at Framingham for 17 years - moved and live in RI - play another private there....

Framingham is very nice - you will use every club in the bag and learn the meaning of Layup and positioning - the place generally cannot be overpowered (although 3 par 5's are reachable to longer hitters) mostly smaller greens and tight fairways.

There have always been some very good players there - 3 diff Mass Am champs and many competitive state level players. Pretty friendly, good mix of ethnicity.

Nice facilities - pool - driving range - locker room - dining - bar, tennis courts usually neglected
Great place for 6pm post work round - location at rt9 masspike intersection is key ---

Thanks a lot! I'm strongly considering joining for next season. Of course they are running a promotion (like many non-elite clubs) to join in the fall and play the rest of this season for free.

The location is great for me. I work in Southborough on Rt. 9 and commute home to Boston. I'm quite certain I'll almost always be on the Rt. 9/Mass Pike corridor, so this is looking like the one. I'm very into the weeknight round.

I'm going to check it out and play a round in later summer/early fall. Thanks again for the feedback.
