1 round in the Naples area....Where would you play?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm in Naples for a long weekend with friends and I can't head to Florida without playing 1 round. So the question is, where would you play if you could play 1 round in the Naples area? I'm planning on playing on 3/20/13

I was thinking TPC Treviso? Yes? No? any other suggestions?

Any advice is appreciated

Didn't get an ovrwhelming response here, but I played TPC Treviso Bay, and it was awesome. Would recommend it to anyone!
An amazing facility!

I really enjoyed the course also. Is the clubhouse still a work in progress? I'm going down there in a couple of weeks and hope to play it again.

Naples has a bunch of wonderful courses. Depending on connections I would recommend Hideout to anyone that can get on. The course is fantastic and everything about the club is top notch. I also got to meet Larry Bird (wearing calf length NBA socks, which is awesome) and Rocco Mediate when I played there so those were highlights as well. Rocco was playing barefoot.

I played TPC Treviso Bay as well and the course itself was wonderful but that clubhouse situation is embarrassing.

I also liked Hammock Bay.

Old Corkscrew to me was miserable. I played it on a windy day and had zero fun.

I enjoyed Fiddlers Creek a lot as well.

Okay, so spill the beans. What's the trick to getting on Hideout?

Being awesome.....oh, you meant how did I get to play Hideout? I was lucky enough to travel to Naples with a friend who has "connections". I had no prior knowledge of Hideout before going and no one mentioned to me just how exclusive it was before we showed up.....then we pulled in the parking lot and all I saw were Bentleys and Aston Martins so I kind of got the picture pretty quick.

Then we walk in the clubhouse to check in and Larry Bird is just hanging out like a nobody at the bar. Really nice guy.

Like I said, if you can get on do whatever in your power to make it happen. You won't regret it.

You could not pay me to play Old Corkscrew. That is a swamp pretending to be a golf course. Be glad it was windy, you would have killed yourself had you wasted your time on a nice day!

As for area courses, this is way late, but, Rapor Bay, Tiberoun, Quail West or Twin Eagles are some nice tracks.

I hope corkscrew is playing well on Tuesday. Got a good deal from golfnow.

I live in the Vineyards and I met a guy at the pool one day and he said to me that we would go play at hideout one day for free since his cousin designed the course. :)

Lucky guy! Mom lives down there and I have been able to play quite a few tracks down there over the years but I have never been able to even sniff the front gates there. Sister worked at various clubs during college and got me a ton of hookups, but now she has a "real" job and I'm often searching and sifting through golfnow.

Where else do you usually play? I am heading down in a few weeks for my sisters wedding and I am bringing my sticks much to my wife's chagrin.

I'm an extended member at The Vineyards (my in-laws are full members). My in-laws play a lot of reciprocals during the off-season, but stick to the Vineyards during season.

There are plenty of courses to play. The Vineyards is a relatively easy course compared to some others.

The way my extended membership works is that I pay $100 and I'm a member, get my own number, etc. Just different from a full membership. I would have to pay each time I use the fitness center, tennis, and pay for greens fees and cart (full membership doesn't "pay" for any of that as it's included in their yearly dues just pay for the cart), but I have full access to the entire practice facility which is great. So what I'm gonna do is look for hot deals from golfnow since most likely I'll be playing as a single.

I haven't played too many courses down here since I just got down here last month. I played Grandezza last week, I played another course a few years ago but I don't remember and I'm playing corkscrew tomorrow. I'll hopefully add a few notches to my belt by the time my time in Fl comes to an end :)
