I believe that is a GOLFWRX member or BSG member's putter - Actually I think the thread where they posted that is in a slighter putter thread. They said the grooves are NOT like a real yes - not sharp but just more like an iron groove.

I'm disappointed IF Tom would copy the C-Grooves if they have a patent on that groove design. As to doing it, I would avoid it. I think the C-grooves puts a great roll on the ball but if you don't hit the spot, then the roll loses energy. I think that is one reason people use them for a little while and then sell them.

 

I wouldn't go for this one, it is a novelty act, and I hope that Tom isn't doing the c-groove thing. If YES! putters knew, I'm sure their attorneys would be sending out a letter to cease and desist.

The more I hear about Slighter's modifications, the more I dislike his putters. He is hurting himself by making lame modifications like this one.

Tom seems to be a nice guy. He would do better just to stay away from controversy. Is it really that hard to say "Sorry, No but I won't do that."?

I imagine it cost someone a pretty penny to get it done. And you can't blame Tom...it's the owner's idea and he paid for it

I just don't understand why everyone seeks out to bash Tom Slighter for the products he puts out for his customers. Now before you decide to add more negativity to my post, know that I personally own 18 Scotty Cameron Putters and not one Slighter. But MBurritt is right if someone paid Scotty enough money he would copy anything. He is the KING of that. Tell me this, why is not one person bashing cameron for all of his un-original designs that he has put out over the years????? Yet we seek out Slighter for everything he does. Just answer me one question? Is he mass producing any of these designs (c-groove/spider web)??? If that were the case I could unerstand the argument. But really give it a rest!!!!!!!!!!

Real easy to say that... but guess what... it is what the customer requested. I do know that when Tom did this to it... he said that his grooves do not serve any purpose other than visual unlike CGroove technology... but that won't matter to the ones who slam Tom for walking down the street the same as the next guy.

 

This will never end... but I am getting to the point where I just can't put up with the closed minds of some of you. What do you want him to do... color it in like a rainbow and call it a rainbow?

 

I wish some of you will actually get the chance to speak with Tom. Instead of constantly slamming his character and his work. He does not intend for his work on putters to be sold for profit. The CUSTOMER requests it and he does it. He saw the challenge (XXIO will say that this is the easy way out again) and he took it. He stated that it would not even be close to how C-Grooves work. They may resemble them but what doesn't resemble another?

 

Please get over it! Its too bad this changes some of your views on Slighter Customs... but we can't change that. We can only hope you give us the opportunity to make you a beautiful putter. Thats all we can hope for. If not... Maybe you are missing out on something. you'll never know.

I guess Tom is willing to do anything for a price, well good for him.

 

For the record I never said SC was an angel, in fact I think he has not given enough acknowledgements for his "inspirations" either.

 

I apologize for taking so much time on this board trying to calmly discuss the morality/ethics behind putter making/stamping.

i think we had a thread a LONG time ago on a slighter/ cameron like that.

If we really look into the art of the putter maker who do we really look back on that has made an impact in original designs?? Some of the pioneers would have to be Karsten Solheim, T.P. Mills, George Low, John Reuter,Jr, Tad Moore & Dave Taylor. All of the current Putter Makers Cameron, Bettinardi, Grace Ect. all owe a great deal to the above mentioned designers. They have all used there designs plain and simple. The one thing that they have done with these designs is made them better by new technology (CNC Milling). One exception to this group would be David Mills. I find it really funny when people say that someone is copying Cameron Stampings and Finishes. Look back in history guy's T.P. Mills was the pioneer of the hand stamp and the gun blue finish. We live in a world driven by technology and information. Maybe we should do a little research before we post some of the things that we do so we can give the proper credit where credit is due. CT10
