1st time posting swing. Looking for advice.

This is a dtl shot of a 5 iron. I fought a bad case of the pull hooks for about a month near the end of the season last year and never really figured it out. I am around a 10 handicap, but was completely lost and confused during this time. Just looking for some advice from some of you more experienced swing analyst. Thanks in advance .

Your grip is too strong causing the face to get very shut at the top. Also, left arm is too vertical at the top causing a very steep downswing which all results in pulls. Need to feel a little more around with the left arm (try and get your left arm at the same angle as your shoulders at the top of backswing) with a weaker grip and more forearm rotation in the backswing and you'll see quick improvement.

You look a little jammed up to me. I'd recommend moving a little away from the ball and perhaps bending a little more from the waste. I think that will help promote a free swing and help get you on a better plane.

But like mentioned earlier the grip is not conducive for a solid swing. I'd start with that before anything else.

Here is a good picture of what I mean. You are standing a little tall just the opposite of this picture but try and create the posture on the left.

Slowswing, I am pretty short, 5'7". I don't have much room to work with posture wise. Any more bent over just looks ridiculous.

I will definitely work on the grip. My dad has always said the same thing, but it has always been what felt natural. It's amazing to me that I competed and played well for years with a grip that doesn't validate a consecutively good swing. As a broke college kid, there is no way for me to have anyone look at my swing until the summer. Thanks for the help guys, you're all I've got until then.

Aahh,,the dreaded double cross! Nothing worse than left of left!

Your grip and stance could be tweeked a little as suggested but in the case of your pull hooks the pathway of the club is being redirected. The hook part is probably more a matter of your strong grip closing the club face in relation to the swing path.

Most good players with a strong grip have to really get their hips forward at the start of the downswing and keep them rotating. From the DTL view it appears like you start to rotate your hips then they kind of stall, then finish rotating after impact. Without a Face On view I would guess your not getting them forward ahead of your upper body enough with continuous rotation. Getting the hips forward and rotating on the downswing will create more space for your arms to come down on the correct path from in to out turning your pull hook into a nice draw.
