Ping Redwood Anser - Blasted

Hey Fellas -

 

A few weeks ago we were discussing the glare from the Black Nickel finish on a Ping Redwood Anser... I picked up a couple to have blasted and here's the finished product.

 

Just to make a little change, I replaced the black paint fill with a metallic gray.

 

No more glare...

Those are awesome. Redwood Anser is BY FAR my favorite OTR putter, it should definitely have a cult like following...amazing..

NO, the Nickel plating would flake off. The Black is the best to get a Starshot finish look.

What is the difference between Ping's Starshot finish and what I have here?

As you can see by the stampings that the Redwood putter is 303 SS. You will not be able to get a gun blue finish to stick to that putter. An oil can finish might work but probably won't turn out like you were hoping. If you want to have a dark finish you will have to use Caswells SS darkener. If you heat it up, SS will turn out very close to Cameron's Honey Dipped finish.

I know the core of the putter is 303SS, but there is a Nickel coating over that.

I have blued a Ping BeNi Asner2 before and it worked perfectly - BeCu's are able to be blued as well... Regarding the BeNi - Not sure if the Nickel or the Beryllium took the blue, but it finish was very uniform.

I really don't know - I sold them off a while back. I didn't hear anything from the buyers, so hopefully no news is good news.

One thing I will do coming up with one I just picked up is have it sealed after blasting... I will make it easier to paint and possibly help protect against shiners.

How has the blasting held up? I'd love to get a black nickel and try it if the finish doesn't fade.

I was browsing through and saw my putter! I bought one of these on the bay from the op. The finish is still perfect and I've been gaming it for 4 years. Love this putter, but saying goodbye soon. I have a Ketsch TR that has finally kicked the redwood out of the bag. My Karsten TR starshot B60 is my new backup.

The blasting was done at lower pressure, so the plating is still present.
