Best Golf Courses in St. Augustine / World Golf Village

Hey Everyone!

 

My wife and I are travelling to St. Augustine in mid-May and I am looking to play a course or two. My wife doesn't play much, but will be driving the cart, so aesthetics are a plus. Money is not an issue, though I'm up for "bang-for-the-buck" courses too. Willing to drive up to an hour from the beach on St. Augustine. I appreciate your feedback!

Both World Golf Village courses are nice but of the two King and Bear is more aesthetic and the one I enjoy more. Just south in Palm Coast Ocean Hammock is nice has several hole right on the ocean and The Conservatory I have not played but have heard good things about

Thanks... I was wondering about which of the two WGV courses might be better from an aesthetics point of view.

if you're picking b/w the two WGV courses, King & Bear is definitely your choice.

also agree on Hammock Beach, both courses there are terrific

If you say money doesn't matter the stadium course at Tpc Sawgrass may be back open depending on when exactly in may you'll be here. It will be high dollar right after the players though. The Ponte Vedra Inn and club is always a great choice.

I like slammer due to the course surrounds world golf village. King and bear is in a neighborhood with houses on every hole.

Ocean hammock by far is the most visually pleasing and a great course if you can get on without staying at the resort. Sawgrass would be great as well. Amelia island has some great tracks too, Amelia National, The Ritz Carlton and Omni lagoon.

I would definitely recommend King and The Bear. TPC Courses are stunning and worth every penny.

My father is a member at both the King & Bear and Slammer & Squire. Both courses are very enjoyable. The S&S is shorter, tighter and is within the WGV where u will have views of the Hall of Fame. The K&B is just outside approx 3 miles away from the hall of fame. This course is great. Many tee options, groomed beautifully, water on 17/18 holes, coquina waste areas, and awesome greens. Go on wgv.com and you can view all the holes from both courses. Have a great time!!! I know I do when I go visit my parents....

Palencia is a great course if you have a pro or someone that can get you on.... As it is private.

I'd highly suggest Hammock Ocean Course.. Fantastic views, really nice course layout that moves around the resort a bit, into some homes, and back out onto the beach literally.

Couple of holes where you appear to be hitting into the ocean, nice sea breeze in your face.

Price was okay as well, service was good, but not over the top.

Play Sawgrass. It's about 30 mins away you will be happy you did. I played it twice my first time down. It's that good. As for scenic I'm sure you have seen it on TV. Up there with the best looking courses.

WGV courses are fine, and probably should be on your list, but they are courses that you play once or twice, and then have no real desire to play them again, imo... more about the "name" than the course. Of the two, I prefer S&S - as mentioned K&G has a lot of houses along the routing. Ocean Hammock and Conservatory, however are courses you will want to play again and again. I'd take those over WGV any day. Another gem is the Rees Jones Creek Course, if you have the reciprocal connections to get on.

TPC is a given if available, everybody should play it at least once. It's ridiculously overpriced, so just have to suck it up if you choose to play it. Others mentioned I like are St. Johns G&CC, although it's only in so-so shape from recent reports. Palencia is very nice as well. Marsh Creek right there in St. Augustine is a great little course with lots of Marsh views, a fun layout.

The other thing about TPC Stadium or Dye's Valley is that you can drop your wife off at the Spa for a few hours while you play.
