Looking to plan first ever Golf vacation to Myrtle Beach

So, I'm 23 Live in NJ and got 3 friend's who are willing to go with me. We are looking to go in late February. Is it warm in Myrtle beach in February? We are hoping some of you more knowledgeable golf vacation guys can point us in the right direction. We are looking to Fly there and stay for a long weekend. Probably leave on a Friday night to get back on a monday night. We don't need to be in the heart of the night action although we would want to go out one night. So who has done it what did it cost you and would you recommend going to where you went. I know they got tons of Golf Packages out there. What ones are good and what ones are bad? We don't need a nice hotel or condo as long as the Golf is good and the Beer is cold at the Club House we are happy. But if the Price is right we don't mind being pampered :-P Help us out please.

I'm also from NJ and have gone to MB in Feb/Mar every year for the last 5 years.

 

I've done everything from 'Stay and Play' packages to two different courses every day. 48 hour trips to five days.

 

If you want to roll out of bed, hop in the the car for two minutes, and be at a course for a breakfast buffet and unlimited range time, I recommend Legends. They have the nicest condos I've been in down there as well. An a huge bar at the clubhouse and a stand alone pub on the way to the condos.

 

There are three courses on site, so you can play in the morning and get a replay rate (1/2 price in the pm).

 

I wouldn't say it's warm in MB in Feb though. I've had everything from 37 degrees and raining to 65 and sunny.

I agree, Legends resort is very nice. I also would recommend Tide Water, Grande Dunes and if you feel like a bit of a drive south Caledonia and True Blue.

Beware frost delays if you try to play 36/day.

 

Stay away from the cheapie deals by the beach. The courses are not good. Look for bent greens...bermuda greens are not good in Feb down there.

 

Here is my list of the best courses down there...I've played everything in MB but the Surf Club...its private...but your home pro can eaily call and get you a time on it. I just had to cancel the time.

I'm from NJ as well and had lived in Myrtle for 2 years... if your looking to go out and have a good night partying, you have to go to Broadway at the Beach. They have about 10 bar/night clubs all in one area! lots of girls!! and beer is not that expensive. Strip club I would say Master.

 

I'm not real familar with golf packages because i lived there, but the person who listed the courses named some pretty good ones.

 

Caledonia is my favorite. its fun and challenging.

 

Grande Dunes is awesome, but very very expensive!

 

Tidewater is sweet!

 

Arrowhead isnt a bad track, its pretty short, but the greens are usually very fast.

 

True Blue and Caledonia are sister courses both very nice

 

World Tour is nice but expensive

 

TPC is another good course

Me and several guys are going in two weeks Feb 10th & 11th. We are playing Sat. at Moorland @ Legends and Sunday @ Barefoot Landings Fazio course. I have been going to MB during Feb for last 7 years and also back again during the summer!!! I love it there!!!!

I played King's North and True Blue plantation when I was down there. Both are very nice courses. True Blue's sister course, Caledonia is supposed to be amazing. None the less, all the courses down there are pretty damn sweet.

If you are interested in playing the high dollar courses, stay at their place, the surcharges will be cheaper. We are going at the end of March, 4 rounds, 3 nights at the Legends (great place to stay) carts, taxes and breakfast for a little less than $650 each. We are playing TPC, King's North, Barefoot Dye and Avocet....MB is a great place for a golf trip!

Do yourself a favor and play Glen Dornoch. 3 of the best finishing hole's I've ever played, wonderful golf course, very testy but not a ball breaker. And it will be a lot cheaper compared to the True Blue's, TPC's, Grande Dunes and such. My dad has a place down there, I've played a good majority of the courses down there and GD is definately my personal favorite for the price. It's really really good

I love this review on Glen Dornoch...haha Makes me want to play it now!Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links - There is no “middle ground” with this course. Golfers either hate it (high handicappers), while others love it (low handicappers). Add to that the fact that it has gotten rather long in the tooth, and could use some reworking. Located on rolling land, with elevations of up to 35-feet, along the Intracoastal Waterway this occasionally “tricked-up” course features a natural terrain of lakes, live oaks, pines, magnolias, wetlands, salt marshes and river views. If you’re not a low handicapper, and are a glutton for punishment, take lots of balls, and enjoy getting your a** kicked.

February is the biggest hit/miss month in Myrtle. It's not going to be 80. 55 is probably what you'll get, but you'll get nice greens. I was down there 2 weeks ago and the greens, especially on the courses with bent, were great.
