Looks too much like a Cameron. Time for everyone to come up with something original.

The stamps are very similar

CB looks like Circle T

007 = 009

Vertical lettering

Scotty's are the best on the market and it's no wonder why the others would want to copy the look.

Thank God someone else sees this too.

It's sad that someone has the talent to create a beautiful putter, and then screw it up because they can't do something original w/ the stamps. Truly sad...

Virtually every putter on the market today is a copy of another design. The stampings and shape of the 009 came from earlier putter iterations, including Byron designs.

Get over it.

I would also take exception to the comment that Scotty's are the very best on the market... they are good, but so are many other hand crafted putters on the market. What sets Scotty apart is the fact that he is a master marketeer with the resources of Acushnet behind him...

I'm not trying to stir the pot just pointing out that the stampings look a little too much like Camerons. They look good but if you look at all of his earlier models they had very different looking stamps. Of course everyone copies each others designs (for the most part) and their is only so much you can do with stamping so it doesn't surprise me to see the resemblance.

Once again, these are not the production models and are only Maker's Proofs hand stamped with text.

To the extent there is any "copying" of a design, other than his big tip of the hat to Karsten's Anser, the only person being copied is Byron himself... but significant improvements have been made in the design by moving the CG to dead center in the pocket -- this is very hard to detect.

This is a great looking putter no matter where the idea came from for the shape and stampings.

The part that I do not understand is how people can say one is better than the others. This is a ridicules statement to make by people for these reasons:

1: If you take away the stampings and the face milling, they all look the same.

2: The unique face millings of each maker do not promote a better roll from one design to another.

3: They are all made from similar materials, and none of you can feel a difference in them.

4: No matter if the putter is a "proto", "production", 1st 500, etc... is is the same material made with the tools. The only differnece between these is the cost and potential collectable value.

5: You will all be able to 3 putt with them, some of you will 4 putt.

Enjoy looking at the craftsmanship and time that people put into this art and leave your "my putter is better than yours" comments to yourself.

.........stepping off my soapbox...........

That's an extremely beautiful putter! Byron is a true craftsman. :drinks:

I have spoken to Byron personally and owned one of his putters. He truly is a great person and has an incredible passion for what he does. You can feel it when you speak to him and see it in his work. Most anything he does will come out beautifully. I only wish the best for Byron Morgan. He's truly a great guy!

I'm a lover of all putters, but come on, why call it a 007 if you aren't trying to draw in people from the Cameron 009 crowd? Calling it a 007 and putting stamps that are very similar to the Cameron stamps is just an invitation for criticism.

...made you look :drinks:

let's wait and see what the others look like. Remember you can always ask for something different.

I cant wait to see the BO finish.

Out of curiosity, does anyone actually enjoy these 'You stole my stampings!' conversations? I assume many do, as 1 of every 30 posts on the putter board seems to devolve into a very dull ping-pong convo about...well, nothing very interesting.

I understand it more in the case of a newer design--say the Newport Detour vs. Hog Superline thing, as some pretty obvious design decisions have been made with those--but in the case of 50 year old Ping designs, I just don't see the point. My friends with Martin guitars don't spend any time at all razzing my friends who own Larrivees over design similarities. They're guitars. The style hasn't changed since 1911, just play the things.

The 009s look absolutely gorgeous, and though I've never played one, I have to imagine there are subtle updates that distinguish them from your usual Dalehead-inspired putter. I believe the people who spend $2500 on one when they say the feel is unmatched. I also believe that the Byron offering here is a high quality model based on the same original design, and look forward to owning one.

In the end, I'll bet there are differences in the topline, CG placement, pocket width, hosel placement, toe flow, etc., of Byron's new offering, the 009, and the original Dalehead, and would love to be able to discuss THOSE differences, rather than what each man chooses to do with their industry standard stamp kits. If someone can contribute points to that conversation, well, that would rock.

BTW, 'Magnificent 7' would be a great name...

Hate to see, great putter makers like Byron and Slighter accused of copying Scotty cameron famous putter models or should i say made famous by scotty cameron. This is really making me a bigger fan of Slighter and Byron instead of a bigger Scotty fan.

This thread should be about comments and opinions on Byron's new putter.

That is so well said.. I can`t add anything more.

Morris it is the same Twlight zone milling that you have on your S-4,smooth.

Everyone that has contacted me about a putter will get one or 2...

I think goldwin called their milled 7 wood the magnificent 7.

KIDDING! I don't what it's called, or how it looks.

Performance is what it's about.

Dancing letters, snow, whatever - everyone copies everyone. No one putter is the best unless it makes the winning putt when you need it to.

You might be right, Jeff. I was kidding. I had one of those aluminum Goldwin drivers. Still have it in the basement. 100% milled by the same CNC shop that does Scotty's milling.

Come on?

Byron's 006 series was made in 2006, now it is 2007 and here is the 007 series. Surprise, surprise.

Perhaps it should be called the Aught 7, or the Magnificent 7.

At the risk of sounding too PC, I'm the retard who didn't know this until yesterday. :cheesy: I can't wait until 2009 when the Byron Design putters go head-to-head with the retail release of the Cameron 009's. KIDDING!

Mr. Morgan never ceases to amaze me with the putters he puts out there. You'd think that there are only so many different takes to the Anser that can be made, but Byron continues to refine and define. He is in a class all by his lonesome. :)

I own 31 scotty cameron putters and use a byron x365 proto. I'll put my byron up against any cameron out there, and the truth is, it becomes personal feel, sound, and preference. Byron's products are top notch and IMHO kick the crap out of OTR camerons, and are as good FOR ME as any circle T that I've rolled. If I remember, didn't BYRON come up with the hosel design that cameron copied and called a newport 2. I love camerons, I think there beautiful, but I'm trying to put a round ball in a hole, and thats not about beauty. The industrial look of the byron just suits my playing characteristics, if you don't own one and still hail cameron circle T's and 009 as the holy grail of putting then it might be in your best interest to give one a shot.

Thanks for the updates ZMAN. You know from my PM's I really want one of these.
