Buyer Beware - Tater Hill, part of Okemo Valley group

I just came back from a weekend in Vermont on an Okemo Valley stay and play deal. We had a lesson with the pros on Saturday, Mike Santa Maria and Don Banks, both were excellent. The Okemo Valley course was super, and the lodging at Jackson Gore also top notch.

 

Problem was the second course in the package, Tater Hill. It was as close to a cow pasture as I've ever played, especially the front side. One wide open space for about 10 holes with about 30 trees total. Rough was crabgrass, bare spots on greens, etc. There was even a dead skunk next to the fairway on six, looked like it had been there for more than a day. There are some holes that run through the woods, and a lot of blind shots. On a scale of 1-10, it was about a 2.5.

 

The people there were nice, but it certainly wasn't worth the drive, I advise you to stay away unless you live next door.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad time at Tater Hill, I would have hoped for better due to the association with Okemo. Thanks for the info.

I've played there many times as my parents have owned a house across the airstrip since I was 5. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience. Kind of funny actually, my father had some sort of role in the ownership before Okemo purchased the property and expanded it from the 9 holes that it was to the current 18 it is now. Just a fun fact, the 18th hole (was the 9th) used to be a Par 6...the first and only one I've ever seen. That was a long time ago. I haven't had the chance to play the course in about 3 years and really hope that they get it back to the great condition that I remember it being. Never really had any kind of bad experience there and golfing there in the fall, especially the back 9, is amazingly picturesque.

Again, sorry to hear about your bad experience but this is nothing like I remember it being.
