Country Club - Louisville Ky (Recommendations?)

Looking for any insight on some Country Clubs here in Louisville. I'm definitely planning on joining one next year and figure this fall to start looking around and seeing how they are. Pretty much it's just me (27 years old) and looking for something better and more enjoyable than trying to play the municipals and sparse nicer courses.

 

I've always wanted to be a member of a cc, and figure it's time to elevate my golf game with more practice, more playing, and more fun.

 

Definitely looking for a positive atmosphere with perhaps other activities/amenities other than golf as well. Reasonable costs.

 

More than likely I'll be joining as a single (possible junior?) membership. Possibly my father (occasional golfer) and brother (rarely golfs) might also want to join for the social aspects, which is also partly why I am asking.

 

I'm pretty much open to any info I can get short of physically going to some, which I plan on doing at some point this fall.

Cardinal Club is a good option you might get out with less than 4000 a year. If I lived in Louisville I would go join Big Spring, but that is a full service club and would probably cost some money. Or if I were young I would take the 30 min. drive and go join Chariot Run for a year, 1500 bucks is by far the best deal and course for the money. Chariot is open to the public and is a casino course, but the greens run 11.5 most of the time and they spend money to keep conditions up. Plus the course is far enough out it doesn't get much play.

Some of the top clubs in Louisville would be Big Springs, Hurstbourne, Hunting Creek, Audubon...all top notch and may be hard to get in. Others would be Cardinal Club, Wildwood, Oxmoor, Standard, Polo Fields, Glen Oaks...some of these are running deals to join right now. If I had my choice it would be either Big Springs or Hurstbourne.

Definitely thanks for the responses guys! I'll likely be taking a look at all of them in the next couple months, but some of them won't be in the mix due to costs. Not sure I could play enough golf currently to be worth it, but some of the courses look great.

Woodhaven seems to be best location and price to me, but not sure quality of course.
Polo Springs and a few others have sparked my interest.

Audobon is really peaking my attention. Prices seem quite decent compared to what I was expecting, and will definitely get a look from me.

Any other thoughts/opinions/ First hand reviews of courses and intangibles?

Big Spring member here & love it. Generally considered the toughest course of all the local clubs with exception to Valhalla. I won't publicly post financials here but I'll answer other questions you may have. If you'd rather PM me, I'll answer all of your questions or give you my cell to discuss that way.

How much is Louisville Country Club and Big Spring CC? Of course their websites don't tell you....

Just a bump here.

After many months of visits, research, and asking questions; I finally decided joining a Country Club.

Today I officially joined Woodhaven. The location, amenities, and cost all factored in, and just made the most sense. Excited to start playing there!
