Going to Portland, OR

Hi guys,

 

Going away to the Portland area this weekend from Canada and was wondering if anybody knows some decent golf courses around the area. Not too pricey but no like a non-maintained golf course please.. hahaha.

 

Also, does anybody known of any good shopping outlets en route to Portland like in Seattle or Tacoma?

We have some really fun courses here, when will you be in town?

Depending on what you want to spend I'd look at The Reserve or Pumpkin Ridge. Camas Meadows is great course outside of Vancouver, WA and OGA might be the best for the price. Heron Lakes Great Blue can be really fun but you can get into 6 hour rounds on weekend days.

Just south of Portland is an Outlet mall called Woodburn that is as good as in the country, it's about a 20 minute drive.

I lol'd at this...

He didn't elaborate nor did he need to (i agree with him), but it is overrated and almost always overpriced. They do usually have good public course greens though.

I would play The Reserve (South), Langdon Farms, and Pumpkin Ridge if you can find a decent twilight rate. Langdon would probably be the most convenient, considering you wanted to hit up the outlets in Woodburn, you would literally drive right by it.

Those are probably on the more expensive side. If I wasn't playing there, I would probably play Tri Mountain in Ridgefield, just 20 min North of Portland.

Yeah camas meadows looks kind of crappy. Playing at The Reserve (South).

Played Camas a month ago. Uncle picked up some pre-paid tee time for $35 at Costco. Tough course if you cant keep it in play. Greens were in pretty good shape. Pretty course compared to AZ...

 

 

 

Also played Heron Lakes. Didnt get to play Great Blue but we played Greenback. Fairly easy course, nice layout. Was pretty wet

 

 

 

Also played Glendoveer. West course is super easy, East is crazy hilly(get a cart) with lots of blind shots. Always liked this course, very cheap and not in the best shape but I cant complain.

My limited suggestions for public play
[b]Pumpkin Ridge Ghost Creek[/b] $$$ - probably the best test in Portland. Has hosted US Ams and LPGA events. 74.5/147 tips
[b]Reserve South[/b] $$$ - bring your sand wedge. used to host a stop on the Seniors Tour. 74.7/142
[b]Heron Lakes Great Blue[/b] $ - better during the week for both greens fees and pace of play. Fantastic value for a public/muny course. 73.2/140 tips
[b]Eastmoreland Golf Course[/b] $ - another public/muny course better during the week, weekends are slow. almost 100 years old, and the back 9 can/should be played with driver off the tee on only three holes. 71.0/124

oh, and don't shop in Washington. their sales tax ranges from anywhere between 7.5-9.5%. no sales tax in Oregon. The suggestion about the Woodburn Outlet Malls is probably on point.

Just want to add Stone Creek to the list. I have not been out there this year, but have played in the past. Fun course, not too expensive.

Decent course, horrible staff.

It's summer though, they likely have a tournament (or two) running almost every day. The OP might want to call and check.

I played both the resevere and pumpkin in June on the same day. Pumpkin was a nice track, and very well maintained, the reserve was ok.

I played Pumpkin Ridge - Ghost Creek this summer as I was visiting from the midwest. It is an awesome layout and has some pretty great views. I paid 105 (walked) and it was worth the price. I suggest walking if you are able. Its an easy walk and really allows for one to "take it all in"

Thanks for the pictures and replies. The Reserve was in pretty good condition and was a fun course to play although I played terrible. Many bunkers on each hole haha. Ended up grabbing a lot of stuff at Izod at Woodburn and got a gap wedge at Golfsmith in Portland.
