Golf Sunglasses

I have tried to play golf in sunglasses before and it just hasn't worked out. The glasses i have worn have not been golf specific either. Do the golf specific glasses really make any kind of difference? I looked at the Oakley Golf Array glasses yesterday online, and they look like a neat package.

I bought a pair of Tifosi sunglasses and I got the golf/tennis lense set with those and I love them. It came with three different lenses and I use the them everytime I am out on the course. One lense brightens greens and helps you to read greens better, the other work well too as one is made for cloudy days and help to illuminate while not blinding you.

 

Tifosi sunglasses aren't very expensive either as compared to Oakley's. I got my sunglasses with the lenses and case for $60.

I love my callaway's x602. Was never interested in wearing glasses... thought they would be uncomfortable etc. Eyes were getting tired during a sunny round, and these glasses are awesome and have worked out well for me in respect to eye fatigue.

I've used the XLJ half jacket array for a few years now and it's great. Good coverage, lightweight, comfortable, easy vision. And the changeable lenses are great for different conditions, although I don't use the darkest lenses anymore.

Do the XLJ cover your whole field of vision. The glasses i have worn before, when i look down at the ball i am looking outside of the glasses and i think that does more harm than good. Thanks for the input.

I have the Half Jacket XLJ's and they do cover the gap between the glasses and your cheek. In fact, I have yet to find another pair of glasses that can do this. I have several pair of Maui Jims. They have better optics, but I can't play golf with them. Still looking for other glasses, but haven't found anything as good as the Half Jackets. I would highly recommend them if you have that same problem.

I have a pair of Aviators that I wear while driving, not during golf.

 

I do a little bit of cycling as well and bought a pair from Performance several years ago. They were only around $40 and have three interchangeable lenses. Grey, Orange and clear. The Orange ones are nice during this time of year when it stays cloudy. They wrap around nicely too. They also come in handy on my occasional pheasant hunting trips to Kansas.

I was given a pair of the PeakVision sunglasses by the nice people at the PeakVision booth at the PGA show and they seem very nice, but to be honest, the SunBuster "Fuzzy" model sunglasses that I picked up at the PGA demo day from the SunBuster people are what I wore the most (when I was playing while in Florida)...they were very nice and really did seem like they made reading the greens easier. I didn't notice the greens being any easier to read than normal with the PeakVisions.

Yeah, that was the main reason I got the XLJ's over the regular half jackets. The lens shape does a great job covering your whole vision field. I wish you could get the array in different frames, other than just black. And I pretty much just use the slate lenses now - the fire iridiums were too dark if there were any clouds at all. The G30's were good for all conditions, but maybe not quite dark enough on really sunny days.

 

So you could probably save half and just get you a pair of xlj half jackets with slate or g30 lenses. When I move on from what I've got now, that's probably what I'll do.

I have two pair of half jackets. G30. Best for golf in my experience.

I got a pair of Callaway S204, around christmas time which have surprised the crap out of me.

 

I have played several rounds already where I basically forgot I had them on; didn't take them off the whole time. Very nice read on the greens too.

Thanks for all of your help. I have also heard that people will put on the glasses maybe 30 minutes or so before they play to get their eyes used to the lens. Is that really necessary?

Haven't heard of a 30 minute adjustment period before...

Most people I know (myself included) just put them on as we had to the range to warm-up.

 

The only adjustment is getting used to something on your face when you golf...and with the lightweight materials they use in frames now and quality of the lens optics, that's a non-issue.

I just bought a pair of the Adidas A18 Golf, should get 'em in a few days, we'll see how they work. They're comfortable as hell though.
