Yep...that's right. The only option to this is ready golf...just get up there and go if you are ready as long as your group is okay with it.

my buddies and I observe the ready golf . The birdie guy could be on his cell phone or going behind a tree to drain the lizard he doesnt qualify anymore.

Ya, with ready golf we usually let the 'short driver' (often me) drive first. That way, the short driver has put his clubs in the bag and is ready to leave the tee box first to hit his shot first.

Technically you should use the honors system or what Gxgolfer stated. But me and my friends usually just do ready golf.

I think ready golf rushes up my whole process because while I'm up there aligning and taking my practice swing I feel like I am slowing the people waiting down. But when we play by score I know it is my turn to hit and the people behind me are in order as well.

If you want to play honors, then you should be ready to go in order. There is no need to have people waiting because you got the lowest score on the last hole.

 

That is not the same as rushing... when you have the tee box you have every right to go through your normal routine (unless you have the Sergio grip and re-grip thing going on.)

I usually just play in a two-some, and we usually go by honors (just to add, if everyone ties then the person with honors on the previous hole would retain that status) or ready golf, but sometimes by how much room we have. as in, I usually outdrive my partner by atleast 50 yards, sometimes more. So, if we have 300 yards between the tee box and the people in front of us, then he can drive without fear, but I would have to wait.

 

and yes, it does drive him crazy that I outdrive him by that much. :friends:

A 6some??! :rolleyes: Not seen that before in the UK. My friends and I play ready golf. If I am playing in tourney then we observe the honours system.

Yup sixsomes. Club allows it as long as the total handicap doesn't go above 60. We usually have 2 groups of six go one after the other. We are all generally fast players except for 3 guys. We just make sure all 3 don't play in the same group.

READY GOLF RULES... IMHO

I work at a golf course and I play just about every day with a different group and it's a little annoying sometimes as far as the ready golf vs. honors goes. The written and unspoken rule is generally honors (I try to be especially careful about this because I work in the pro shop and have to see these people on a regular basis) but it gets really annoying when you are standing at the tee and the person with honors doesn't look like he's ever going to tee off. Sometimes I just want to say, "hey idiot it's your turn to hit and can you hurry up because I'm sick of the group behind us riding on our a**es all day and I don't want it to look like it's my fault for slowing play down on the course." Eventually the conversation comes up that nobody cares who goes when but I think that there's no reason that the person with honors shouldn't go first unless they're in the bathroom or on the phone. It would just be nice if the person with honors would be ready to go instead of standing around.

 

I guess a good solution would be to get the honors on every hole. Either that or keep reminding the person with the honors that they're up.

 

It is annoying also if you join a group as a single and they always tee off first on every hole automatically like your turn is just an afterthought regardless of what the scores were on the previous hole.

I ask "are we playing ready golf?" on the second tee. Clears that right up. Almost everyone that I get paired up with wants to play ready golf.

Unless someone made birdie on the prior hole it's "ready golf" on every hole, every time! If the person who made birdie isn't ready then the people who ARE ready tee off. If I made a birdie and someone who is clueless jumps ahead of me I don't care and I don't make a fuss. Just keep it moving people. If you are the type of player that keeps track of your group's placement on the course please take it upon yourself to suggest quickening the pace to fill any gaps between your group and the group ahead. Don't single anyone out. Suggest it to the group as a whole and there should't be any feelings hurt.
