Macgregor GT Tour with Grey Inset and Horizontal Milled Face

Tour Only or Limited Run.... (New Pictures.....)

:drinks: I went by my local E.W. to check out some of the new equipment coming out and they had two or three Macgregor GT 5K's with the Grey Inserts. One of the 5k's had deep horizontal milling across the face (similar to a Rife but deeper).

Are these typically "tour" putters or has Macgregor released these in limited quantities and not made much of a fuss about it?
E.W. was selling them for $130 which seemed like a great price.
I putted around with one of them for a while and the insert felt really good, similar to the XG inserts but quieter.

The picture is the only one I could find that shows the Grey Insert. I may run back by E.W. tommorrow with my camera and take some pictures of the Horizontal Milling.

In the new golf digest they are in the bag of JJ Henry, who uses a Long GT. I noticed the deep grooves you were talking about, and i would say there are tour issue. I actually took a double take when i saw the face of his putter. or maybe they are a new version of the GT?

- Well I stopped back by the Vestavia Hills Edwin Watts here in Birmingham and I took some pictures of the HSM (Hole Seeking Material, Bobby Grace’s name for the grey insert) Gt’s that I mentioned yesterday.

- According to the salesman, Macgregor sent them 5 or 6 of these a couple of months back and these 3 are the only ones they have left.

- All are brand new but after some close inspection I could tell that they had been sitting around for a couple of months. – Is it just me, or does the finish on the bottom of the V-foil Gt’s seem particularly delicate?

- 2 of the 3 have the extra horizontal milling that I hadn’t seen before.

- After some back and forth comparison, I like the feel of the HSM over Odyssey’s XG insert, then again “feel” varies from person to person.

- I doubt I buy one just because of my budget, but I figured a few of ya’ll out there would appreciate seeing some unique Macgregors.

- Let me know what you think.

My money is on Tour Issue only. Pretty unique looking putters, IMHO. If I was still heavy into Grace, I would have to have one.

Both of those putters are TOUR.

 

The milling is one that Bobby began producing last summer. Progressively milled grey HSM (Hole Seeking Material) insert to promote a more of a forward roll on the ball.

 

These were never available retail. However, as demonstrated by your find, they have found their way into a few local shops........only to be discovered by the lucky few...

 

They could be early proto's of that milling design as there is no BG stamp on the face, but I'm not for sure.

 

If I were anywhere near that place I might be inclined to snap both of them up! :drinks:

 

Anyhow, if it rolls the ball in the hole and it feels good to you, then that's all that matters!

- Thanks for the comments guys, I knew when I saw these that they were unique pieces.

- As far as a comment by vanquish007 about the lack of (BG) Stamping. If you look carefully at a couple of the pictures you can see the BG Stamp was there but milled through. I don't know what, if any inference to take from that but you can still see the faint Red BG on the heel if you look closely.

- On another note, I hating falling asleep with my contacts in only to wake up at 3:30 in the morning with my eyes burning, LOL - Oh well, I'm hoping this is my latest, or earliest post for quite sometime...... (cool)

I don't know if I'll buy one, if I did, the center shafted with extra milling is my personal favorite. I'm in law school so my budget (and my wife) restrict my purchasing power. But, you never know..... a tour putter for $130 is hard to pass up.
