Apex pro's or keep the razr x tours

Thinking about getting a new set and considering the apex pro's from 5 iron to pw. The razr x tours do the job but thinking of the apex pro's. Question? Is their much of a difference in feel and performance? I currently have TT XP 105 in regular shafts. Suggestions greatly appreciated. All clubs are Callaway and the putter is a Scotty Cameron Studio Select 2. Average score is high 70's

I'd be very interested in knowing this as well. Of all the new offerings I've dabbled with the apex pro's are the only serious contenders for replacing my razr x tours. I've dabbled with the jpx pro 800's to get a feel for mizzies but the pros are just a tad too big but play very similar. The tours are going back in the bag today and the mizzies will be given away.

The X tour's are just an iron kinda meant for me. They are tough to kick out of the bag.

I have no background on the X tour's but I just got a set of Apex Pro's and they are the softest, most solid irons I've ever hit. I was playing Adams CB3s and was worried about forgiveness in the Apex Pro's. Nothing to worry about.....at all. For a players club, these things are surprisingly forgiving. I was looking at AP2's, but as many have suggested, they felt a little clicky to me. These Apex Pro's are really nice. Highly recommended.

  • 2 weeks later...

Gonna bump this a bit for us Razr X tour folks.

I hit my fav used club shop up and the beckoning call of the apex's was too strong for my weak ho'ing spirit. Bought the apex (non-pros) simply cause of the feel, and good things I've read and heard about them. About 5 range sessions and 2 rounds later here's my thoughts:

1. Lofts are weird. Yes Cally hit the market hard promising distance but some stuff is SERIOUSLY off. Specs are from Cally's site. X-tour 4-iron 23*...Apex - 19!!!. X tour 5 iron 26...Apex 21.5!! So where you'd hit an X-tour at around 200 for me - the 4-iron, for the Apex...the comparable club is the 6! Make a chart. I did. Note the 7 degree difference between the 6 and 7. I'm tempted to dump the 4 and even the 5.

2. Forgiveness on the Apex'es is better. My mishit is thin. The Apex's do a wonderful job at correcting this, almost giving results equal to a well struck shot. Fat ones ain't bad either.

3. More workability. On playing cuts with mid irons where you'd move the ball 20 yards across with Tours, you will see 40 with Apexs - it's less forgiving on heel and toe mishits, thankfully not a prob for me. But if if you choose to work stuff - be subtle.

4. Feel. Yeah baby - best ever.

5. Accuracy: it's there. First range session with the Apex's. I picked a target and made a little mental game. Strong crosswind. There was a yardage sign about 130y away aided by the crosswind swirling to backwind. It's 3' by 4'. I chose to play a slight cut aided by wind with the PW. I HIT the sign 7/20 times - either directly or by bounce. I'm far from a great player, and maybe I was lucky, but that does speak to me at dialing in distances and consistency. I had a couple range guys laughing...because it's funny.

Hope this helps anyone on the fence. The tours are being replaced.

X tours are some awfully good irons....I played them for awhile a few different times and they are hard to beat for what they offer.....smallish head and very forgiving...I had no problem hitting cuts or draws with them and since they are heavily weighted around perimeter those shots rarely got away from me.....apex pro prolly do feel lil softer but not $1000 worth, lol

The only drawback with Callaway cb's is they look old very quickly....seen apex pros that weren't that old and they look hammered.....certainly razr x tours look beat up fairly quickly too....

Dispersion and accuracy are swing related not club related

Razr X tours are fantastic irons, I demoed the Apex Pro and nothing made me want to switch. I have the KBS Tour V in mine, so I was comparing same shafts as well.

If you can get over the blah feel of the RAZR X Tours and the thickish top line, they are awesome. I played them for some time but eventually went for something that felt better (to me) and gave me more control over trajectory. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Apex Pro, though you will be giving up forgiveness, particularly on toe misses.

I never hit the RAZR X Tours but knowing Callaway, my gut would tell me that if you were looking to compare a newer version, I'd try the XR Pro irons over the Apex Pros as a more direct comparison to RAZR X Tours.

The Apex Pros will probably compare more to the '13 X Forged. I came from the X 18 Pro irons into the 2013 X Forged and couldn't be happier. They are still forgiving enough but I LOVE the added feel. The look at address and overall look to me is their best looking iron in a long long time. I still like the look of the X Forged over the Apex Pros. (gotta admit I do like the Apex MB but not going there as badly as I want to try).
